so, all the movie talk got me turned on to an idea to "dot the I's, cross the T's" on some of the flix that didn't exactly make a clean cut ending...
[WARNING: SPOILER ALERTS MAY BE WITHIN]
Let's start...
Can someone explain Vanilla Sky? It was a bit of a mind to follow, even after watching it 2x...
What did it mean at the end... who said "Open your eyes"? |

Inception wasn't hard to understand :p
havn't seen vanilla sky :(
as for 2001, I don't think there's much to 'understand', in a figuring out the idea kind of way- there's no linnear plot: It's about the development, or evolution of individuals, technology and mankind imo, but I don't feel there's one thing you're meant to get from the film; its just not that kind of movie
a good, complicated one is The Fountain, lots of possible meanings there, if people are wanting to see ambiguous films :) |

Which part do you mean? I found the ending quite weird myself, but when I read the book it all made much more sense :) |

| People who were unable to understand Inception should stop watching movies that are more demanding than a disney cartoon. Cause that's obviously the highest level they can handle. |

I found the portrayal in the movie rather obvious, actually :)
I believe the last film I saw that I considered to be remotely intellectually challenging, was The Fountain. |

| I've seen Vanilla Sky 4 times and i'm still not completely sure what happened when. I think at the end with the Open your eye's he's being brought out of the dream back to life but could be wrong. |

| I remember Akira being particularly confusing. Maybe that was due not reading any Manga when I was younger, though. |

| vanilla sky: tom cruise opens his eyes and he's back in the "Dream world". it was fixed though; you know, he crashed in the accident, got all disfigurd ,then went to the company, they froze him, and during his freezing it ed up (ala cameron diaz trying to kill him) . so he met tech suport on the rooftop, talked it out, they said, "our bad" , and he jumped, "died" and it fixed itself. so he's still frozen in the real world, but alive in the dream world he created w/ the company :wtf: |

Vanilla Sky: The accident had happened, so they froze him and gave him a dream in which he would live. He had just met Penelope Cruz IRL before.
However the dream the company gave him, accidentally turned into a nightmare, so he was trapped.
At the end of the movie the guy gives him the options of:
1) They could fix the dream and he could be with Penelope Cruz, and live the rest of his life in there
2) He would come back to real life, where the technology would allow him to rebuild his face, however Penelope Cruz had died /or didn't recognize him since he had "disappeared" from the real life.
He take the choice to return to the real life and jumps off the building.
"Open your eyes" is he returning to the regular life.
I'd like explained Donnie Darko & Eraserhead. |
