| So I have been Frequenting Guv for close to 9 years now and over the last few years I have noticed a dramatic change in the talent at Guv and always wondered if they got a new booking agent or something? I dint know if its just me or what but the guv has had a lack of "that special night" type of feeling to me by not having as much diversity as years past where u would have sick progressive house nights and events like the ultra spins...any info.from anyone? |

| I think its more a change in what people want to hear. The kids want to hear these DJs so Guv books them. |

its been the same guys.
like chem said, its the change in what people want to hear. with a club this size you kinda need to book the djs that the majority of people want to hear if you want to fill the venue. at least thats my opinion. |

i disagree.
in the past guv was able to achieve the same (packing the club) with a lot more interesting events. I'm not the majority but i myself don't want to hear 95% of bookings in the last year or two. |

See I'm the other way...
Last couple years have been MUCH better than the 3 or 4 years prior...
The best years were even before these bookers came in....
Guests were few and far in between and we didn't need them...
The Chris Schroer and Shelley days... |

| like i said I dont know if its me and how i have aged over the years but just seems different especially after all the remodeling im pretty sure. I mean i remember the events where you would get Diversity like Stephen K and John Creamer followed maybe by like Daj Dan or something and another thing i noticed is the Lack of Extended Sets these days..I remember walking into Guv and it was almost guaranteed you would hear a minimum of a 6-8 Hour set from one of your favorite Djs and now its hard to squeak out 2 1/2-3 Hours, like i said that could just be me but I think that sorta ruins the whole artistry of the Dj to Build up up a set..just seems theya re warming up for that amount of time. |

2.5 - 3 hours is plenty of time for a dj to build a set! Sometimes the real artistry of a dj is to try and build a set in a shorter amount of time ;) |

Yah they can do it but it's a short lived experience...
I'd much rather have a nice 4 hours plus..
But whatever... I've gotten to the point where I hardly even care anymore... |

i couldnt agree more. while its been years since ultra spin events have happened, i still remember the lineups and DJs that were on those bills that you never see at guv hardly anymore. its always the same monotonous DJs. while i like the majority of the djs guv brings, the variety it once had is certainly lacking a lot. the "WOW" factor of the all access parties has certainly diminished and i feel the booking agents have become very complacent knowing that pretty much whoever they book the venue will be packed instead of keeping things new and fresh and even sometimes taking a risk or 2 with a DJ you book to bring new light to the toronto scene.
and i agree as well that the days of the 4+ hour sets seemed to have vanished also. for example, i think this sunday for family day the guv is overbooked. they shouldve not booked dubfire and only had carlo lio and calderone play. calderone is a marathon dj and id be surprised now if he plays more than 4 hours having those 3 all in the same room. carlo shouldve opened for 2-3 hours and calderone the rest of the night.
just my thoughts |

If that's the case, I sincerely hope that Carlo Lio drags Calderone over to CZ after. Beck + Lio + Calderone? I'd stay there the entire day |

like you said, you're not the majority.
the scene in toronto has changed drastically over the last few years. it has become much more mainstream and mainstream radio listeners like this type of music. |
