Damn! I couldn't find it but it was a book about lucid decapitation I'd heard about on NPR which was basically a collection of fictional (of course) short stories about the thoughts that were going through the heads of people who'd recently been decapitated. I vaguely remembered that the author had used 83 seconds but it's a guess, at this point.
I guess I kind of got excited and lost my head, there.
