by the time we got there dance floor was closed off but luckily a girl in our group somehow sweet talked bouncer to get us down there even though it ws an hr process. Annoying they shut off the dance floor and when u get there, about 30% just standing and texting/bbming if you are not gonna dance leave

i managed to stick it out until 7 and got rewarded with without you near (afterhours mix), dark heart waiting (lost stories mix) and rui da silva - touch me (coldharbour mix) back-to-back-to-back to finish out. epic night.

i was so exhausted by the end that all i could say to markus afterward was 'dude, that was legendary.' haha. thank you markus for an unbelievable night.

nice meeting everyone, and hanging out with garen and michelle briefly (i knew i knew you from somewhere... haha)

Wow!

This was my first time at Avalon and was instantly amazed when I saw the layout. The sound was amazing, the people were nice (much better than SD's EDM crowd), and the lighting blows SD out of the water. But.. are there always *that* many asians in attendance? I'm asian myself, but I wasn't expecting to see so many! lol

Vibes were 100000000x better than Markus @ Fluxx this past Thursday, where people elbowed my head like crazy and I felt like I was gonna get into it with random dbags.

Will call line was the best line I've ever dealt with in my life. Arrived at 11:00am and got in under 5 minutes. I saw the regular line and was a bit worried, so presales definitely paid off. I wish the clubs down here would do something like that instead of lumping everyone in a single line.

The line to get into the main dance floor around midnight was horrible, but I understand that it was at capacity. I simply waited patiently, told the bouncer we had three in our party, and eventually got in after 40 minutes ...

We walked onto dance floor just as Markus got on, and saw the entire crowd erupt with their hands up and hard beats destroying everyone. What a way to make an entrance. At that point I knew that LA is more my type of crowd than SD, where the enthusiasm is bleh. The lighting was epic with so many lasers all over whereas SD venues have one laser machine.

I was hoping to find an area where advanced dancers congregated but didn't find anything, but I'm just glad that I could actually dance (in the back) without rubbing arms with sweaty guys.

All in all, this was a great venue, an epic set by Markus, and one of the best clubbing experiences I've ever had. I definitely need to come back here more often, especially since Circus left me with an awkward experience when they had a goth event in the same space during the Tritonal event

Just woke up... I stayed til the very last song, and even though I wa starving and my back was sore it was damn well worth it. That was the most legendary set I've heard in my entire life.... That's something you usually have to goto Ibiza for so I'm so thankful he decided to play for us that long. He played the heaviest and darkest afterhours tunes after 5 am and did not let up! I'm stunned at how good he was... like jaw dropping to the floor good haha

We had a great night with all our friends/CH ppl. Markus looked good in a black t shirt. Wonderful vibe, great sound and amazing effort by Markus. We were both ill so left close to 5AM, but really enjoyed the night. Congrats to those who stayed, I imagine it was epic. Also, thx 2 Michelle for the cards, showing our care. ;)

Argh I went with some friends who pooped out around 4:15. I wish I could've stayed longer so badly, especially being a huge Markus fan. The first 3 hours were awesome too; love the new Dakota tracks but I would have to say that Sinners is still my favorite out of the new ones.

Not happy about the dance floor being closed off. There was still a line to get in there at 4 AM. I think, though, that just goes to show how popular Markus is getting. I spoke to some people there who had seen him at Marquee and now came to Avalon to see him. Last year when we went to see him at Avalon for memorial day it wasn't THIS packed. That being said - packed crowd = great vibe and energy.

Well done Markus.

wow, Markus's set was amazing last night! My friends and I were all too tired and stayed til 5:30 but Markus was still going strong when we left.

I think Markus' ASOT500 sets really pedestaled him to a new level. This is his best year since 2003/2004/2005. Don't know if I can really put one on top of each other, because it's just a different era. His sets then were heavy on the dark progressive side. Then it got super melodic for awhile there, and kinda got mixed in with so many other DJs out there doing the same thing...so they all sounded the same (Think this is when the term McProg started to be used :p). But now he's gone the darker, more techno route; in his own direction again and it's really paying off for him.

I think we really knew this was going to be an insane year for him after his NYE set in SF. So nasty that night (also 5.5 hours). Was bummed he didn't play the nasty stuff on his GDJB World Tour in January because it's what defined that night...and sounds like the nasty part of his set is what defined last night, too. A couple of people who went to his NYE set in SF and last night said it was like living NYE all over again....and that's only a good thing!

dave i agree that his NYE set really pushed him to the next level..and yes, last night was A LOT like his NYE set.

each time i hear markus this year, it's better than the last time i saw him.

Completely agree, Avalon is a much much better venue then Fluxx all the way around, especially the crowd. People in SD just seemed so much more stuck up and douchey it almost took the fun out of the night on Thursday. I stress almost because Markus' set completely made up for whatever I had to put up with that night. I am still completely blown away by the set Markus spun last night. Seriously life changing and will never forget it! Must say the highlight of the night for me though, was when Markus played Without You Near. I've been wanting to hear that song live for years now and it finally happened last night, during the most epic set/night I've ever had. I barely made it through to the very end, but of course it was worth every bit of energy and soreness.

Must say I can't wait for the new Dakota album, as every single song I've heard so far, I absolutely love. Really hoping I can stay in SoCal for a while, might be moving job openings/promotions soon, as I'm completely love the EDM scene here, much better then any other place I've lived so far.

I really hope he plays the dirty stuff on his World Tour broadcast this week. Showcase it to the world. So many people out there who don't understand the dirtiness we speak of. Really feel like he's loving the California scene right now. Showing the LA and SF club crowds a similar type of love. :)

And all reports are that the crowd was very well behaved. Even my Michelle, who typically HATES the Avalon crowd, brought up how good the crowd was over all.

Wish I could've flown down. :(
