| I think Bill Gates is more concerned with Malaria than Macs. |

Except they don't. Bill worked for Apple and was writing Microsoft Office for Mac (Before the PC even existed) but then he stole Apple's user interface design while he was working for Apple and backhandedly released Windows 1.
And the reason MS invested in Apple was because they were in hot water with the government because of their monopolistic behaviours and did it to avoid antitrust lawsuits. Had nothing to do with Microsoft "helping" Apple. |

There are still plenty who think Apple's worth is overvalued compared to its profits, though. Time will tell if they're really as valuable as their stocks say they are.
There is also the issue of Apple being "cool". How long can they continue to be the trendy one, when trends are so fickle? |

Not many people think that. Especially considering both it's P/E and forward P/E are pretty low compared to most stocks. And the lowest analyst rating for it is hold (with 3 ratings) and 39 analysts rating it overweight.
They seem to be doing pretty well so far. We'll see if it continues, especially whenever Jobs dies/retires for good. |

They're not just "trendy." They make good products. Their products are popular because they're easy to use and usually the first to do something or the first to do it well.
IE: iPhone, the iPod, the iPad...
If it was a case of being trendy the iPod would've died a long time ago but it's been going strong for like 10 years now. |

As much as I hate to admit, I agree. I love my iPod because it's the first mp3 player I know that organises audiobooks in so neat a manner. Even iTunes doesn't bother me that much any more. |
