whoa, thats pretty weak.

Very disappointed with the line-up with dubfire opening I thought they were going to be really stepping it up! Nonetheless Congratulations to all the artists who get to play! Nice :D I'll try to make it for all the local acts if you can tell me what days you guys are playing and i'll try to make it :D

Pretty weak indeed. And I wish they put some of these bookings together, rather than making us go for one good act + 3 others we most likely have no interest in. For example: why can't Julio Bashmore and Untold be on the same day? Or Dominic Eulberg and Max Cooper on the same day?

Anyway...

Congrats Matt!

no offense to locals christian...but aren't we are always being told that piknic is this event that every hot name in the business wants to play really badly?

so where are they?

why is igloofest a smash success? because of the locals?

its a circle jerk and you know it.;)

well, I understand your point about djs who play at parking, daomé,blablabla every days or weeks, you're right. I guest it's about cash in a certain pourcentage but it's fun to play outside, some people don't go out in bars or afterhours often,so it's their chance to be known or have fun as big name.

Parking,U.N and Salon Daomé are almost the only bars with Electronic music in Montreal. It's very limited for local djs. That's why I'm pushing OP BAR and Club Lounge V to help the djs, people and the bars scene a little bit more.

For Igloofest, I guest the city is more helping them, maybe more sponsors or artists charge cheap to play. No idea.

You build club nights around locals for sure, and rightfully so. Piknic did a remarkable job at getting the brand this big. They are bigger than a club night, a big event, i'm just really surprised at this huge step back. Maybe it wasn't as healthy as we thought it was? I didn't mean any offense to any locals once again, from big brands it is normal to want big things no? When you read the lineup, you want to go "oufff" and get a little excited no?

Am I the only one not disappointed? Some of those names have me downright ecstatic.

Julio Bashmore, Untold, Girl Unit, Egyptrixx, Jamie XX, Scuba, Addison Groove, and Appleblim?

If you don't know those names, it's not because they're small; it's just that Piknic is responding to a growing movement within EDM and you're not familiar with it.

Each one of them will deliver quality, unique sets. I can't wait.
Zyklon_Jay
That statement is false because i am aware of them, as i know some of the others expressing disappointment are as well.

*shrug*

I just don't think you can make a case that they're small names or that it's a weak line-up.

Out of 18 days on that list that have their full, confirmed line-up there are 12 that have one more artist that I recognize as being either very talented or at least popular/well-respected (if I'm only familiar with their music and their name). I'm definitely much happier with this than the line-up last year.

That is the beauty of weirdo music, we can agree to disagree. At the end of the day the success of the events are pretty much going to be the judge.

I think some of us are just venting because Piknic used to cater more to our tastes in the past compared to the the direction it seems to be headed now. I'm not saying they went all Playground either, but a curve ball all of the same, at least to myself personally.

^ I'm with you on this one. Piknik has always had a freak music edge, but it's gone off the cliff in the past couple years. I'm looking forward to Fred Everything & Ian Pooley, and keeping my fingers crossed that one of those TBCs is for Lee Burridge.

Edit: and TLB jr of course, although I have no idea what he'll pull out for a Mutek event.
