No one has explained why if you are able to purchase everything in cash lol... I mean, if you have the case, and the reserves, to make large purchases why would you ever take a loan out? It makes no sense. |

They have credit cards but they do not use them nearly as much as most people in other countries. |
True - but that's because, as I recall it, interest rates are so low it doesn't even matter whether or not your money is in the bank (correct me if I'm wrong). It's a completely different reality. I wouldn't ever consider living without a credit/debit card here in Brazil.
Besides, you're talking about a country where medicine is often sold as powder, and where they still use cardboard in the news :D |

Are you confusing a debit card with a credit card? |

| By the way, I'm just trying to point out that this argument is weak, Cliff. Personally, I can't say I care about how you pay your bills as long as you pay them :p |

I think its a strong argument, if there is some sort of argument that credit is required to do things in a modern society, then you can point to Japan where its an almost entirely cash society and they are very modern. |

Oh, and that site is bull. Someone has just shopped the Google maps controls onto the site; the pictures clearly don't come from there.
One photo shows a guy with a gun, and the street view controls are in Cyrillic. Germany only got street view late 2010 - it's still a long way off in any countries in Eastern Europe. |

Because the Brazilian banking system is awesome beyond belief (I'm often told it's the best banking system in the world, given the experience acquired during the 70's/80's when the banks had to deal with an ludicrously high inflation, but I'm no expert).
The control I have over all my operations, and the discounts I get for being a students, are really worth it. Besides, withdrawing money isn't always possible (specially at night, when you're vulnerable and might get mugged), so it's way safer. Not to mention the fact that I sometimes want to import books from abroad, and I can't do it with cash :D |
