I don't have a credit card either. They're complete ing horse as far as I'm concerned. God forbid I have to save money to make a big purchase

edit // yeah this site's cool. Pretty sure it's been posted a few times too.

I would like a credit card to use for emergencies, but I can't find one that seems suitable. I just want it to give me airline miles for what I purchase. I don't care if it s gold nuggets and turns tricks in the alley behind my house, I just want some in' airline miles.

I thought about going with a specific airline credit card, but I am not loyal to one carrier, though.

Because the Brazilian banking system is awesome beyond belief (I'm often told it's the best banking system in the world, given the experience acquired during the 70's/80's when the banks had to deal with an ludicrously high inflation, but I'm no expert).

The control I have over all my operations, and the discounts I get for being a students, are really worth it. Besides, withdrawing money isn't always possible (specially at night, when you're vulnerable and might get mugged), so it's way safer. Not to mention the fact that I sometimes want to import books from abroad, and I can't do it with cash :D

Monetary inflation and price inflation is still a major problem there.

i don't know how you guys can live without credit cards...how do you book stuff? order stuff? put deposits down?

I'm all for cash, and not using credit is fine, but to have it just in case is some good peace of mind.

The interest isn't that bad if your name is good and you get a good rate...and are not a deadbeat that makes minimum payments. This and a line of credit with the bank can come in handy for those pesky expensive homeowner moments that come out of nowhere...like a tree through the window:mad:
