Can you become a doctor?

Not meaning that in any bad way, sorry man, not trying to offend you at all. But you've posted here a few times regarding your , so I'm just wondering how that will work for you?

Tell me to piss off if it's something you don't want to discuss.

Yes I can, so long as my "condition" is under control. Which it is :)

More specifically upon application to med school I had to present a letter from my doctor saying that I was "fit" to study medicine.

I'm a junior (almost done!) BS in Microbiology with a Chemistry minor- Id like to do research. Did lab research for Evolutionary Genetics (molecular cell).. if I can't get into research or funded for it, I'll probably become some kind of 'Dr' :p

A PhD biologist recently told me about a paper stating that over 90 % of all biology, microbiology, etc. research is not reproducible. Think twice before getting into that. :)

That's cool :) Forgive my curiosity.

Go for it man, nice one.

Master in Computer Science. I think.

I'm double majoring in Political Science - International Affairs and Philosophy. Either going to go to law school or get my masters in International Affairs after I graduate, not sure which yet. Though if I get an interesting job or internship offer I might postpone that. Have some time to decide, though - just finishing up my sophomore year now and think I'm going to take five years so that I can go study abroad at Oxford for a year :)

How do you mean? That if someone was to recreate the same experiment they wouldn't yield the same results?

I agree if that is the case. For my potential Ph.D. I have to recreate an experiment I spent 8 months on, except this time I need to consider the genetic aspect rather than just physiological. I'm not expecting to get the same p-values from the stats, but (touch wood) they should still be statistically significant.

Would probably be a good idea to look at Fulbright scholarships if you want to work in to UK as a post grad.

howdy, Var here,

i am a few credits away from being a Physician's Assistant, courtesy of 300-F10 Army Special Operations Medic course, although i absolutely have no interest in the medical field anymore (too much meat-packing plant work for one lifetime).
took a bunch of CLEP tests to get my E6 promotion (and DA E7 promotion).
have a bunch of other courses, but i can't really see them transferring to a viable civilian profession.
now that i am retired, i am thinking of going to university to study psychology, in the hopes of helping other Vets with severe PTSD.
not sure if i will get a "job" per se, but i'll be happy just volunteering and helping where i can.

She was doing cancer research in mice, so the specific argumenet was that biologic systems in general are so unpredictable that a specific result can only be obtained with exactly one cell line in exactly one animal model.
If somebody tried to recreate what someone else published he would grow the cells himself, which means they'll be subject to the genetic changes inherent to all reproduction and he'll use animals which might react slightly different so something for whatever reason. Basically the unique nature of biological systems makes it extremely hard to get reproducible results.
