True, I think that's the case especially with larger organisms. This is why fruit flys are so popular in genetics, they are easy to keep & have a short life span. You can observe through 'generations' relatively fast. But like I said, I know the limitations my degree would probably have but its the area of study I find most interesting (and cosmology- but I sure as hell know I couldn't become a quantum mechanics physicists lol!). |

Sounds exactly like me. Why can't cosmology be simpler? And Meat's words make me a but nervous since im in the process of transferring into a microbiology program. Ffffuuuuuu
Here's to hoping a biochem minor helps my chances and I don't wind up trying to teach HS biology to a ton of unreceptive, dispassionate teenagers. |

That and their genetic code is so easily manipulated - the geneticists at Uni told me they could easily make fruit flies have feet for wings and wings for feet if they wanted to.
My Ph.D. is going to be such a mix up though, involving physiology and genetics to understand the physics of movement coupled with beneficial acclimation hypothesis. :eyes: |

While it's interesting work, I'm glad I never got into research. It's such a boring and lifeless career path. |
Really? I bloody love it.
It's just a shame people outside the field hardly know what exactly it is that we do :( |

This is just too easy now... :p
... must resist...
... at least say something slightly clever ...
... maybe a pun ...
... not the taxi driving joke ...
... irony? ...

You do know I'm not a philosopher, right? :p |

| How could anyone say that research is a boring field..? If you can get a job in research with the degree that you went to school for then thats usually a dream come true. |

| S.B. in electrical engineering and computer science, minor in mathematics. going to get a master of engineering in electrical engineering and computer science next year doing computer vision research. yea. though i just handed in my last assignment, and at this point i just want to turn my brain off for the forseeable future. |

Philology, philosophy... what's the difference? :conf:
OK, I know, but it's kind of harder to make fun of you when sticking to the facts. :D
And I must admit that the usefulness of linguistic research is not immediately obvious to me. |

Because it doesn't get you the big bucks.
Exciting career = $200,000+ a year. |

| I'll be lucky to make over 45K a year with my career. You can still do a lot with that little money. I'd rather make a large positive impact on the world using my skillset than climbing a corporate ladder though. It is going to take a while to save up for my next big adventure though :p |
