| Yeah I agree, exact replicates of experimental data are pretty much impossible. I would disagree that it is cause not to do a Ph.D. though. |

I didn't say that. I said it should be considered that biology is a special type of science. Some people might not like the idea of doing such research. |

| While it's interesting work, I'm glad I never got into research. It's such a boring and lifeless career path. |

Ah True, you did.
It annoys me the amount of people that join this degree program and expect to be earning 100K a year swimming with Dolphins, when in reality you end up counting sea snails along some muddy estuary :p
The problem is with this field there are so few jobs as it is, and the jobs that are available pay poorly unless you get a Ph.D. (MSc's will top out at about £25-30k a year eventually). |

A lot of people seem to have completely wrong views on what they're doing, especially about the income. I know a lot of guys who did some business stuff, expecting to be a rich and powerful CEO after a few years. Now they're crunching numbers in Excel sheets for 12 hours a day.

Wut?
When I had to make the choice it was exactly the opposite. Friends who started in the industry told me how lifeless and boring their work was: doing the same time and time again, just being their bosses slave, etc. Research, on the other hand, was an opportunity to learn new stuff, pursue interesting ideas and work independently on a project. But probably it depends a lot on your field, area, university, etc.

I didn't say the research was boring. I said the career path was. There's a clear difference there.
I'm far too ambitious to sit around for decades, getting paid peanuts to do work which should be paid magnitudes more. It can be rewarding but it would have taken me nowhere, fast. |
