so this was my first pvd event in god knows how long. it was great seeing all the old school people, alyssa, andrew, dirty DAVE was around!, zaneta, kelly, and a whole bunch of people here and there. i got there a bit before 8 and decided to leave around 11. now onto the music...
yeah i didn't like it haha (flame on). i haven't listened to much pvd lately so i was curious to see what he does now. it just seemed (to me at least) that consecutive tracks had no rhyme or reason for lack of a better term. PVD needs more RAM in his macbook pros too - tracks froze at least 4 times in the 3.5 hours i was there.
all in all i had a relatively good time at the island, seeing a lot of old heads on the "beach" there.

I haven't seen him in a long time, maybe 2006 or 2007, and his short sets (6 hours was good for the money, it's usually 4 at best anymore) & these reviews keep me away. I was interested in this since it was a 6 hour set, but there's a lot of other stuff this weekend, and I worked until 8:30 last night anyhow. At least I'm not upset that people whose opinions I respect said the music sucked. Would have been fun to see a lot of you at the same time, though. |

u can say THAT again...LOLOL. some things NEVER change. oh well i dont think he had that many repeats, so i can overlook that :tongue2
did he even play CRUSH? i did NOT hear that one at all.
Drew and I decided to head on out a bit before the set ended...funny enough, as we were walking off the beach, TOOL started playing. bwahhh good instincts, huh. The wait for the ferry was aiite...got to enjoy hearing "HOME" (I do like that song tho)>
It wasnt a perfect set, there were def spots that werent perfect. but I'll agree with Burak, he did throw down really ill tracks that stood out (did he throw down a lot of his productions? I wasnt sure since I havent been following him for a LONG time). (Also, I dont like "New York City" but I'll admit, that was an ill remix :D) I was dancing and stomping like back in the ROXY days and fully enjoying it to the max.
The vibe was DEF there, the venue was amazing, and the ppl were there...man it was SOO much fun last night. And for $25 man its prolly something that won't happen again. So glad I was a part of it, and to see all of you again

i didn't think the set was comparable to the older sets of the 2000 era, but the relaxed vibe, the chill people and just having PvD spin for 6 and not 2 hours was good enough for me.
as a big PvD fan, it was just great to have him here, spinning on an island for 6 hours throwing down anthems for us. |
hear hear :tongue2  |

i honestly didnt think there was anything special about his set
his flow was all over the place, alot of high pitched generic sounding trance songs...only maybe 5-10 songs that i really liked
song of the night was def reverse-distant destiny wow what a banger
the vibe in the begining was just so dull, i mean i know it was early and all but there was only like 30 people on the dancefloor when pvd first came on he must have thought to himself "i havent played outdoors in nyc in almost 2 years, and this is the kinda response i get?"
the boat time was a lil retarted and no boat from brooklyn as they advertised either
to me the tent was pretty useless, the sound and lighting tho were top notch i will give them that
overall it was kinda disapointing set, i know he could do far better
good seeing everyone i saw, lots of old faces out and about
p.s wtf happened to their drink selection? no peroni? no sangria?

In my opinion of the overall experience, it was definitely a great time. The party atmosphere that occurred there was pretty top notch and for the most part, everyone was loving the stuff PVD was laying down. The weather, the location, the skyline, and the crowd definitely made this event awesome.
His set definitely wasn't perfect (I noticed a couple train wrecks too) but it was still extremely fun to be a part of. I really liked when he was slamming in some hard tracks during the peak of his set. It was predictable for him to start off soft when the sun was up and get crazy when the darkness came... predictable but in a good way.
Great time for me.
Oh, and the only bad part was the ferry ride to and from... I waited extremely long too... very annoying. |

u all know me and my negative rants!!!!!!!:)
first of all, that system sounded like complete garbage.you really couldn't make out any more than a kick and low end which was a bonus in this case. I though he played @ least 3/4 of a pound of cheese and had no direction at all.ferry rides to and back were a pain in the arse
positives...yes there are some...bathrooms were readily available(god help u if u had to drop a duece or a girl) and bathrooms were readily available.LOL
someone wake me up when NY comes back on the map |

I was tired as from a crazy week. I knew I should have sold my ticket. I attempted to go in the middle of the dancefloor to see if it was better "in there" - it wasn't. I left at 10:45. I did spend my first hour or 2 talking with everyone so I guess that was awesome :D
My biggest rant - The food fuking sucked over there.. I rushed over after work and I was starving only to find the SMALLEST selection of foods for vegetarians. Umm.. Beef hamburgers or beef hot dogs - I feel bad for people spending the whole day at the festival the rest of the weekend. The veggieburger didn't suck but damn - bring a food truck or something. Take a lesson from EZoo on that! |
