I am not faulting the Raves, Drugs, Candy kids, or Insomniac as a promoter. I am faulting whom ever made this documentary as it looks like . Maybe the full movie is better but that trailer looked terrible and nothing more than a promo for Insomniac events. |
You don't fault Insomniac but you would fault someone who (you perceive) is trying to promote them? That sounds a bit self-contradictory. If what you mean is that my documentary should be more balanced and not lean so positively towards Insomniac events, well the topic of the film is EDC 2010 and what happened there that caused an explosion of news media hysteria which ultimately led to major changes in the LA scene and beyond. Covering this topic in a fair manner requires me to show an issue's good and bad sides, and everything in between.
Considering that EDC attracts well over 100k happy attendees annually, I'm not sure how you can expect anyone to make a legitimate piece of work without including the perspectives of those attendees in it. Furthermore, it surprises me that you find a trailer about an event with crowds of partgoers bum-rushing fences and a 15-year-old girl collapsed (and later died) as being a promo piece for the organizers of that event. It seems like you had your mind made up before you even watched the trailer and only saw what you wanted to see. |

OMG A PROFESSOR OF ELECTRONIC DANCE MUSIC?
Are you a part of an accredited university?
Will this class count as an elective or what?
Are you going to have a themed-rave where everyone wears graduation gowns at the end of the semester? If so, can I just use my old one? Or are you going to make me buy a 3rd? If you make me buy a 3rd, I will kill you. |

it probably is a good documentary but the approach that you are taking on this board is not the best one in terms of promoting it.
I was actually interested in seeing more of it but got turned off as soon as my friends were being called morons, etc...
true... some members may have started "the debate" but sometime it's all about being the bigger person.
we all take on here. hell. I probably take the most (at least the biggest after eating - hardy har har). but we're friends on here. West Coast familia and Kumbaya , ya know. |

Meh, your friends were turned off way before I called them morons. In fact, they were turned off as soon as they noticed that they were not in the documentary, they were not interviewed...nobody cared about their opinions on the matter. Instead of reserving judgment until the whole work can be seen - like a logical/rational person would do - your "friend" decided to bash the piece, and even go so far as to say it's not even really a documentary. With all due respect to you, I called your friend a moron because he is one.
Perhaps I've enlightened him now, and he can endeavor to be a better person.
West Coast familia died in 1999, bro...let it go. Now all we have is kids and dozens of camps of jaded old ravers talking to one another. You know, kinda like this.
All I can say is watch the documentary. If you don't like it then, cool, talk all the you want. |

| So, is the documentary a long promo for Insomniac? |

From what I've seen of it, no. In fact, it is quite the opposite at times and not about insomisuck at all at times. Most importantly, its not centered around the production house that threw it at all - because, well, that's not what makes that party significant, right? |

| So, is it about the ravers from all over the world that come to L.A.? |

One portion of it is, yes. It sort of sets the stage. Create the setting, introduce the characters, tell the story. Simple formula, always effective...at least I always thought it was :wtf: |

Less sold on what, specifically? |
The official trailer seems to be about the death at EDC, but they title says it's about the scene and why it draws. It seems to me like a specific approach hasn't been laid out. What do you plan to do with this piece? Is it just for fun?
If it's something you really want to have some pull and get recognized, maybe bring on a friend that is in marketing or PR to help guide the public face of the production? |
