another big problem I see is you don't have a venue.

if you want one of the clubs you mentioned in your post, they are already locked down all weekend and several weeknights with their weekly parties...

if you were looking to book say a less-when known techno dj, they hey you could probably get some place like King King for a decent deal...

but if you want a major name to play at a place like you mentioned already, those clubs in most instances would not bother to work with you because there is no upside for them. they can just throw their regular club night - maybe if you did a buyout you could secure the venue but that would cost $$$.

Well, back when I was growing up in Chicago, the largest promoter in town locked down exclusivity contracts with all the major A-list DJ's. These guys were contractually obligated to only play for this company and the venues they were working for.

You don't see this kind of thing really in LA with so many powerhouse promoters. However, my guess is that it's in the best interests for the teams behind Tiesto, David Guetta, Paul van Dyk, etc. to stay loyal to Insomniac, who have control of the largest festivals in North America at this point.

i'm sure the big dogs in LA get first right of refusal to book any name dj coming through on a tour... as Bas said you get emails from the booking agencies stating that DJ XXX is coming through in a few months and is available for booking. So the 1st person emailed would be the promoter that's booked that dj regularly... if they don't take them then the dj would be made available to anyone...

Hello guys thank you for all the insight!

We do have a venue, it was Supperclub.

We started off as promoters but never booked DJs. From the promoting we have done we gained business relations with some of the clubs I have mentioned, including Supper.

Since we want to venture out into actually booking DJs and putting on our own events I decided to contact some DJs. Out of 9 agencies, I got 1 email back. These were house/trance DJs, however only 1 got back.. Afrojack.

I did not offer a bid because I did not know how much it would cost to bring him, that was the reason for my e-mail, to find the price out so we could budget accordingly. After emailing back and forth I was told that they (WME Entertainment) deal with in-house bookers only and already have someone at Supper (Freddy).

if you are looking at Afrojack or a similar big name, you def are in the 5-figure range for a booking.

Hit up the person at Supperclub with a more concrete proposal with some projected #s and see what happens. get permission from the booker at SC to use their name along with yours and contact the agencies again... maybe that would get you more responses.

I had an idea of about 25k for Afro because I heard somewhere that Avicii was about 20 a show. Don't know how concrete the figure are or how reliable the info was.

We are trying through SC now.

Thanks for the info guys!

remember the price is going to vary upon the night of the week, the venue, the set length, etc.

those #s sound low to me for a Saturday night here in LA but may be reasonable for a weekday. Both of those guys have sold out Music Box this year which suggests their asking price would be up there... and who you would be up against in terms of trying to get them for a gig.

Yes we still have to take all those factors into account. Might have to go with a smaller more upcoming name.

I've been loving this thread. I've come up against promoters securing nights in various places also. And had the exact same idea.

Anyone have any good ball parks $$$ for less-popular DJs that i could land?

EC Twins? Aoki? LMFAO? .... more?

Do they require all the money up front?
