I voted for Bush in his re-election. It was my first election, I was in college, and I was naive.
I can tell you what my reasons were, though:
1. I thought we were at serious risk from Iraq and terrorism, and to change presidents during a war would be a bad idea. This was before we know how shoddy the evidence was in the first place.
2. He had Colin Powell on his side, a man I respect. We didn't know at the time, however, that Powell was basically being pushed aside in favor of Rumsfeld and Cheney's opinions on things.
3. John Kerry was awful. He had no visible leadership ability what-so-ever. At least Bush was a guy who could have conversations with people, even if they weren't intelligent conversations. Kerry was just a mouthpiece for the Democratic party, with seemingly no ideas of his own.
Of course I regret voting for Bush big-time, like many people who did, but those were my reasons at the time.
EDIT: So yeah, basically this. I think I learned my lesson:
quote:
He became president the same way that every other democratically elected leader came to power: through the manipulation of the emotions of the electorate.

We voted for a majority conservative government. Harper is basically the Canadian version of Bush. Humanity in generals are manipulatable.

Harper is nowhere close to Bush.
Canadian Conservatives would be accused of being communists in the States.

But the interest are the same. Harper may have more brains, but we're still heading in the wrong direction.
45 million dollar art budget cut. Increase in military spendings. Increase in bank funding and tax cuts to the riches. No care for the environment.
Yours sincerely, a ing sheep

Other than the weak environmental policy (which is a symbolic gesture more than anything when you think about its world-wide impact), I fail to see why any of those things are bad.
