If this wasn't true then why has the Postal Service cut so many of its workers the past 4-5 years? I don't think it's too far of a stretch to say that anything that's been killing jobs has also been hurting the economy. I'm also not insinuating that we have to kill these technologies in order to boost employment, more so we just need to find ways to get around it. But what Obama has said in that video I don't see as necessarily being false or misguided.

The postal service is cutting its work force because it is running itself into the ground, financially. New technologies do not hurt the economy, they help. New technologies also create new jobs.

For every ATM, ten former bank-teller families go to bed hungry!

O Rly? That's funny, because I used to work for the Postal Service. It was a temporary position that lasted 6 years for me. And you know what my superiors told me when they let me and dozens of my fellow co-workers go? That our positions were now obsolete, because new machines could do our jobs better than we could. So sorry if I call bull on that statement.

Really, DOOMBOT's just being obdurate because the excerpt of the conversation was taken from a larger context pertaining to workforce modernization.

So it is not true that the postal service can not financially sustain itself and because of this, is laying off workers and even trying to cut down on the days it delivers mail?

Even the whole conversation doesn't save Obama from his economic blunder. It was probably one of the dumbest things anyone has ever heard him say. And here you are... defending him. :)

Well take a look at your supermarket. There's like two people working checkouts and the rest are all self checkouts. They let the consumer do all the work. I stand there ringing up my groceries thinking when the hell did I get a job here?

Also, trash men. I use to always see two people working. One driving and one collecting . Now, it's one guy on an optimized garbage truck doing both jobs most likely getting the same pay.

Should have stopped the auto industry from ever getting started and saved the horse and buggy industry.

Should have stopped elevators from ever allowing the passenger to click a button to send them to the floor they need to go to and instead kept your elevator operators.

The world would just be much better off if technological advancements never occurred and we were stuck in a time warp where advancement never happened. Is this what you guys are trying to say?
