I can see for someone who was a fan of Tiesto's what Armin does will look like copying a lot of the time. Like I say I go by what Armin says and what he "mostly" plays and its still true to his core sound of uplifiting, euphoric and emotional trance. The problem is he is playing way too much e (like the last 90 mins) to stay popular instead of pushing the music he claims to love and wants to play.
So In that sense he is very much like Tiesto, I just have faith that he wont totally go the wrong way like Tiesto and most recently Above & Beyond have. |
i get where you're coming from but for me armin did go that commercial route quite some time ago and its even more obvious in this set to me.
for me the change happened in 06. or atleast thats when i noticed it. armins first club night in miami outside of wmc was in oct 05 and that to this day is still one of the most amazing sets ive ever seen. he showcased his talent so well. came out blasting, built the set beautifully, nice mix of old and new, and just hands in the air epic epic epic at the end. exactly how its supposed to be done. the moment i really went "wow" was in the first half hour, he came out with a couple opening proggy trance tunes to get everyone in a groove then mixed perfectly and i mean PERFECTLY into some underground house track then back to the proggy trance. i really wanted to say wtf but let me tell you, he pulled it off. i dunno how. its still one of the great mysteries in my life how the armin was able to be that smooth and make that work. but he did. so he came back a few months later in the summer of 06 and almost everyone that was at the previous show wondered where that armin had went. it was nothing but soft vocal cheeser after another for 3 hours. i think i left after 2. he came back one more time a few months later again and the armin i loved was dead to me. again nothing but cheesy crap. nothing i could do but move on. occasionally i listen to an asot episode or better yet a live set and skim thought it but it just doesnt not have that same passion that armin 2005 and before used to have. to me armin just plays a collection of armada tracks for label purposes and a collection of whatever is popular at the moment. doesnt seem like a lot of passion goes into it anymore.
i thought about selling my ticket to the show next week (they're selling online for $70) because hey since i won the ticket, itd be an extra probably $50 in my pocket but it. i'll give armin one more chance. but if its like this set (and im sure it will be) i'll probably be on my way after the first hour. atleast jochen miller who ive yet to catch live is opening so the night wont be a complete bust. plus i know the vibe will be insane so hopefully thatll force armin to bring out his a game. im debating if i should make a sign that says "armin, here in miami we like our trance HARD!" or something like that. lol |

we all have our own ideas and experiences and im just glad for once we've been able to share those constructively. usually this kinda turns into a huge flame war, and ive been guilty of taking part in the past, but im just glad it didnt turn into that this time.

I feel you mate. Its difficult when you hear how this set has gone to think there is anything left of the "old" Armin. All I can say if folk like my pals on here Coxx, Kasper, Rayb and many more we still hear enough and see enough of Armin at his best to tell us that sound is still alive.
Like I said I saw him in Glasgow in April and it was terrible but ASOT 500 in Den Bosch was so incredible (and it wasnt even the best set in the series of gigs) it made me feel the sound was still there. And I strongly suggest you check out Universal Religion Chapter 5 and then come back and say he is going completely the Tiesto route.
But this set is a right off now, he is obviously playing to the chessier Space crowd that is going to see him to hear trouse and trance 2.0 |

That is the ASOT tranceaddict family (as we christened ourselves to separate ourselves from the #trancefamily on twitter) we respect and understand everyone's opinion no matter how different it is to each other cuz we all have a core love of really the same music. |

well armin usually doesn't play like tonight, if it's 2-3 hrs set he plays a lot more trance style than all kind of other styles, you should be ok. |

The sound is there, the tracks are still there, but he is playing more to please the crowd.
I think the main problem is the crowd nowadays, the main crowd is there to party, not to fully enjoy the music.
Crowd who are going wild on tracks from Afrojack in a trance set is not the real Trance crowd.. :rolleyes: |

Im pretty convinced this is actually one of full night solo sets from probably early August now. No way would Armin play a little trance and mostly crap for 4 hours unless he had 2 or 3 hours still to play in the night.
Its just a massive disappointment after the last ASOT to promote UR5 sounded. We just have to have faith that this isnt how Armin is going to go in the next few months. |

i'll defiantly check out the new universal religion before the show next week. i always like to have an idea of what to expect. big reason of why im still listening to this set too. a lot of people dont like to know whats coming but me i get more excited when i expect a track and then its get played. :toothless |
