Not as atrocious as the other lists we've seen so far. But still hardly inspiring.
With all these new ways of finding and mixing music we have seen in the last decade, you'd think doing something different then plucking in the endless supply of serviceable A-label house and techno records, making a nice podcast and keeping on doing the same trick at every gig you go too would give you a major boost in such lists. But nay.
Don't get me wrong, i love going to a good banging techno night as much as the next person, but a lot of these guys just feel interchangeable, A night with #99 is probably just as fun as a night with the #1.
I'm probably not being very fair since I haven't heard a lot of the newcomers on the list. But it being an RA list, i'm pretty sure i know what to expect unfortunately. |

well said. they all have a similiar sound. deep and repetitive. some might use more disco-y vocals, another might have more UK bass style vocals, another might be tropical sounding, but they're all classy, underground, and repetitive (things take a long time to develop). |

Unremarkable list overall, but then RA's got an incredibly smaller sample pool for their public polls compared to others. It's always going to be loaded with 'scenster flavor of the year' stuff, and they're preferring the "He so cra-a-a-a-azy!" antics of Troxler and such over the "He so dru-u-u-u-u-ggy!" antics Villalobos 'n' Vath now. |

Jamie Jones totally deserved it. The guy is a phenomenal DJ and his remix of "Hungry For the Power" was probably the biggest tune in Ibiza this past season, gettin' play from Sasha, Nic Fanciulli, Carl Cox, Pete Tong and probably everyone else.
So happy that Villalobos didn't win again. Horrible DJ and producer IMO. |
