Awesome doc.

That documentary will counter some of the claims that everything was rosier when the booze sales stopped.

The more intolerant and controlling those in power get, the more those they take power from tend to naturally rebel. Something about Newton's third law of motion...action...equal and opposite reaction, etc.

People need education to overcome ignorance, not more rules.

As for the further south you go the more relaxed people are, maybe but what about scandinavian countries? I'm not sure but I'd be surprised if there was a last call in say Iceland. I've heard it's a very very relaxed place and there in the northern hemisphere...

not quite. The drinking age is 20 in Iceland. They also have very very strict laws on drinking and driving. Bars are open later....but I have never seen a downtown look like such a pigsty as Reyjkavik did at 6am!!

Also it was by FAR the most expensive place I have ever had a drink.

I don't mind the heavy taxation of booze. It sucks paying it but let's be honest that crap is bad for us and with public healthcare you gotta pay for it somehow. It might as well be from the people who consume it the most and are likely to rack up alcohol related health bills instead of the general public subsidizing their habits.

That being said if it's being stated that the LCBO isn't paying the lowest possible rate for their product or at least close to it, that's not acceptable. They're one of the largest if not the largest single purchasers of alcohol in the world so if someone else is getting it for less it means they're not doing the job to make sure their costs are as low as possible.

I stand corrected. I just meant in terms of how not every place in the northern hemisphere is considered as tight as us when it comes to selling booze/drinking.

Using public healthcare cost as an excuse to raise prices to control individual lifestyles is the best argument you could ever come up with against the idea of public universal health care. It also sets dangerous precedents on civil liberties.

Yeah... WTF! I don't even know what they want to try next season considering...

And back on topic. The price of booze has never stopped me drinking. I may not get the best top shelf booze, or a case of premium beer, and if I go to establishment which is overprice IMO, I will drink less there probably, and more than likely not frequent that establishment as often.

I drink because I want to, I drink what I like because I like it, at times I drink excessively because I want to and price is not a factor at that point.

However, this lifestyle tends to leave less money in my budget for other things and those don't suffer, but take a hit financially.

So, my point is, I don't think the price of booze is what encourages drinking or prevents it. Because each day as I go into work at night, I see the same 3 guys who smell like piss, look like and never seen a pay cheque in years, all of them drunk as in ... trust me, they don't have money. They still manage to get drunk of their asses, all day, every day.

So any argument that says the LCBO keeps the price up to discourage it is full of IMO. Don't give me the booze for free, but make it fair and in range of other similar places.

I agree 50%. Happy?

Why they negotiate for better prices?

WHY THE WOULD THEY? There is no competition. Only one place to get booze in Ontario. One store. For restos and for consumers.

Cigs are different prices because there is competition.
