"Guyanese, Arab, all you Muslims are the same..."
And you keep pointing to this anti-U.S. bias you seem to believe I harbour, which in actuality has been entirely fabricated in that pea-brained head of yours. I don't hate the U.S. in the least. I do however, have a low boiling point when it comes to (as your hero Hal pointed out) rather baseless fear-mongering and ethnic intolerance, both of which are foundations for these laws.
Might be because I'm one of those brown people who knows what it's like to be unreasonably targeted because of the colour of my skin. Who knows, eh?
So we come full circle to my original assertion - you've never been unfairly singled out due to your skin colour, ergo, you have no ing clue as to what you're talking about. Out of your arse end, speaketh thou. |
I could give a what color you are. I've never been unfairly singled out, that must mean I'm completely unqualified to have any sort of opinion on the matter one way or another. Perhaps the US should appoint an entirely Muslim panel to decide on the civil rights of all Muslim Americans just so people like you, the "one of those brown people who knows what it's like to be unreasonably targeted" can feel all nice and warm in your blanket of unquestionable rights to do whatever you damn well please.
Well guess what. You don't have that right. The fact that you're not white doesn't give you any ing right to anything at all. You think that your skin color gives you some special get out of jail free card to not be harassed by any sort of law enforcement for any reason whatsoever. It doesn't. If people of "your" appearance have had a tendency to commit some of the most heinous acts in US history, then you can ing bite your tongue and either let your "undeniable" liberties be "violated" or you can not ing come into this country. Any ing citizen of this country forfeits their right to these civil liberties that you claim are an undeniable right when they step aboard mass transit. If it happens to be that a select few chose to ruin it for the lot of you, then so be it. If you want to post some sob stories about being harassed for the color of your skin, you'll find no sympathy from me. If 100% of terrorist attacks on the US were committed by Irish Americans, I wouldn't run away crying every time I was selected for more thorough searches when boarding a plane.
Cry me a ing river.
I bet you've never even been harassed in your life. I bet you just have brown skin, and so you think you identify with every single brown-skinned individual who has ever been stopped by security.
Ya know, Oliver Cromwell made slaves out of thousands of Irish people during his occupation of the Irish Island. So I have an undeniable perspective on slavery which you will never have because you just don't understand. MY PEOPLE WERE PLACED UNDER SLAVERY AND YOURS WEREN'T SO YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT AND YOU NEVER WILL BECAUSE YOU'RE BROWN AND NOT IRISH.
Get real you ing sob story. Like I give a whether you've been stopped at airport security. If the TSA stops 100,000 Arabs boarding planes and it ends up preventing 100 deaths, it's worth it. Stop crying.
"Fear mongering" you say. Out of all of the major terrorist attacks on the US in the past decade, what ethnicity/race/theology did these people come from? If US security were up to you, everyone would get a free pass just because there's a chance that they may not be a terrorist. |

| That was my initial thought, but then I tried it myself and it sends me to a login screen. I'm suspecting it's because midnight passed in my timezone, but it's probably a COMPLETE MEDIA BLACKOUT. |

I barely know where to begin with this vat of delusional bull, but I'm a sucker for trying to get people to understand me, so I'll give it a whirl.
First off, I have been harassed, many times over, in the good old True North Strong and Free. Grew up in the 70s, residing in various small cities across Southern Ontario, being regularly taunted with really ing venomous calls of "nigger!" from other kids, whose parents harboured the same, fearful, ignorant mentality that you're espousing in the above post. Great to see that such thinly veiled bigotry ("well, if it was Irish Americans..." - well, it ISN'T, so enough with the hypothesising, it only increases the perception that you're utterly out to lunch on this) is still alive, well and being passed down to future generations.
My skin colour should have ZERO bearing on my susceptibility to harassment, a concept which seems to entirely elude your brainwashed noggin. The quality of my character should be the only determining factor in this matter. But ignorant, paranoid sociopaths in positions of power and influence don't have the capacity to measure the quality of character of others because their extremely limited filters simply won't allow it, the quality of their own character being so hopelessly eroded that they're only able to identify with others who are just like them. Which leaves the remaining option of singling people out by means of more simplistic and easily identifiable traits, that only have connection to the quality of their character when someone (such as yourself) imagines it to be so.
That you choose to group ethnicity, race (an archaic notion which is pure fallacy, through and through) and theology into one convenient category shows the abject limitations of your perception of other human beings. If U.S. security were up to me, it would involve actual intelligence, but that would take substantial organisation and dare I say, compassion, which you'll be hard pressed to find when the relative handful of people wielding the illusion of power continue to vainly attempt to control the third largest population in the world, a long-increasing portion of which is no longer just like them.
But hey, you keep carrying on being your parents' son, making up fairytale "what ifs" that have no foundation in present reality and exercising your right to your opinion - which, by the way, I have zero issue with you expressing, just expect that you're going to continue to have a can opener taken to your vacuum-sealed mind by those of us who've lived matters from the other side of the fence.
(waiting to have my advanced age brought into this so srussell can make himself feel better about his racism :p ) |

| The practical reason profiling sucks is that it diverts a huge amount of time and law enforcement attention. So you are going to examine all the Muslims or "swarthy" people in an airport to catch the one in 100,000 (or whatever) who have violent intent? Well, all the time you spend on questioning the 99,999 / 100,000 non-terrorist Muslims based on a few superficial characteristics is time you are not spending on scanning the airport looking for suspicious behavior. |

| The "good" it does probably serves more to alleviate - somewhat - the prejudices of the majority of passengers rather than it does to in fact protect them from harm. Everything's fine so long as we know the cops are fondling the brown people thoroughly. |

| Brown people MUST be fondled. To do otherwise would be unpatriotic. |
