| Another problem is that when you speak against racial profiling, I think you're actually arguing that Muslims (or whatever race) should be afforded more rights than everyone else. Any time a Muslim person is searched, they'll think it's racial profiling. So then what, no Muslims could ever be searched, to avoid running the risk of hurting their feelings? |

No, not really. Everybody else also has the right not to be detained merely for wearing the wrong sort of hat or having an Arabic name. |

Right, so any person who is detained who is wearing a turban or has an Arabic name is obviously being racially profiled. So nobody wearing a turban or having an Arabic name can be detained. Start the checklist of characteristics that exempt people from being held up by security. |

Naw. If someone of that description needs to be detained, and there is a reason other than their being of that description, then give that reason as an explanation. Pretty simple. |

That's just an example for why that sort of thing is blown out of proportion by civil liberties activists. It was brought up in another thread how the wearing of Burkas conflicts with public safety. It was likened to wearing a ski mask in public. Regardless of the obvious and very fair point that safety and liberty were conflicting, many people would still argue that it is their right to wear them in public.
What I'm saying is that public safety is more important than certain civil liberties. Not all, but some. |

Well you're certainly more than welcome to suggest alternatives in addition to metal detectors, x-rays, etc.
Eddie alluded to some before. I'm interested to hear what it is. I'd assume something to do with reading body language. People who are about to commit a terrorist act might be nervous or display other outwardly noticeable body language.
I agree that there probably are much more effective means of security, but I disagree with the view that racial profiling is fundamentally wrong. |
