I drank and drove once. Don't know how much I was over the limit but here is my reasoning. It was my birthday and my GF go into a small paint scratch accident on the way home. She was afraid to drive after that so I did but I drove straight edge because I knew I had a lot or more than my average of 1 or two beers. I drove the speed limit, stopped at red lights and all stop signs, etc. I did not do this again and tend no to.
I bet a large % of drviers out there has done it at least once and for the ones than made it home thank god they did not hurt anyone. If you do it normally then you know why you got a DWI or hurt someone, etc and hope you learned from it. |

I know at least a dozen people who regularly drive well over the legal limit and have never had any kind of alcohol related citation, have never hurt themselves or others, and have never been in any kind of accident of any kind while under the influence.
Like I said, stupid people get in accidents whether they're drunk or not. Intelligent people recognize that they're drunk, and compensate by driving a lot more carefully than they normally would if they weren't drunk. |

It all has to do with wrong place, wrong time. There's more drivers under the influence out there than people would think.
Getting a DUI, unless it's a blatant disregard for the road and law, is all predicated on where the cops are and if they notice your driving. Most people get away with it.
My uncle's been driving with a beer in his hand for 30+ years and hasn't had an incident. Others aren't as lucky, even if involves a casual drink or two.
I think geographic location has to do with it too. Florida is known for its vast number of DUI offenders; that's why the scooter is widely popular down here. No need for a driver's license lol. Cops down here look for that left and right. |

| Sure if you get stopped at random checkpoints. But people who obey traffic laws tend to not get pulled over for no reason. If you're not speeding or swerving all over the road they're not just going to randomly pull people over. |

The South doesn't work like that. They stop people down here for anything, anytime.
I can pull up the arrest report from last night in any one of the major cities in Florida and I'd bet there's a substantial difference in DUI arrests as oppose to NYC or Boston. |

You say that, but the cops can't pull you over if you're not doing anything wrong, unless it's a random checkpoint. They can pull you over for going a couple mph over the speed limit, but if you're going at or under the limit, come to complete stops at lights/signs, signal lane changes and turns, they really have no grounds to pull you over.
Get out of the south, imo.
Regardless, I think it's pretty absurd that you're claiming that police officers in the South pull random people over for no reason at all. |

It has nothing to do with random. It has to do with how they "police" down here. |

| So they "police" people for obeying all traffic laws? |

Intelligent people don't drive drunk, period.
You may think that "oh yeah, i'm doing the speed limit, i'm stopping at all stop signs, i'm not doing anything stupid" but that's your inpaired thoughts. In reality, someone should be video taping your driving while you are impaired; so you can see it while you are sober and realize that while you thought you were "OK" there was more than likely something you were doing wrong, that you wouldn't have done wrong while sober.
This goes for texting as well. |

Then explain the countless people who drive drunk all the time and never get in accidents or pulled over for doing anything wrong. |

Luck. There's no cops on the particular road they're on. This isn't rocket science:stongue: |
