I think the bottom line is that the best man for the job, just resigned.
Shame on the FA for getting involved in the first place. The choice of captain should be entirely the managers. Whether he does or doesn't want to stick by Terry, the FA board should respect whichever decision he makes.
Moving forward, Harry said this morning that he "hasn't even considered it, and that he has a job to do (with spurs)." Pardew also took himself out of the running.
Regardless of who the FA find, the fact of the matter is this England side just doesn't have the quality to compete with the elite teams in Europe right now. If they couldn't do it with Capello, they certainly won't do it with someone else. Even if they get through their group (which will be a stretch), as soon as they face any real competition (Germany, Spain, Holland), its game over.
Another FA fail all around. |

I did read somewhere that the reason this wasn't dealt with by the FA was because the complaint didn't come from a player, but a member of the public, and hence why they decided not to meddle...
|
Absolutely. And they should have then waited for the ruling and not dished out a half-assed punishment. In fact if they were so eager to do something the should have recommended to Capello to strip him of the captaincy not do it unilaterally.
Btw was listening to the FA press conference on the way to work. They have no clue what they are doing!

What else matters other than Euro's and WC?? C’mon. The mentality of England's national side has to change in order for them to do something. Capello played the same ol' style. I’m personally hoping Harry comes calling - I think his pride will lead him away from Spurs. |
I dont think the style is the problem, its the papers making England pretty much favourites every time, when they dont have the players to back that. When have England made it past the quarters in Euros and WCs not on their home soil? Italy'90 but I think thats it.
Harry isn't the saviour though. He is a great spotter for talent and good bargain buys. He can assemble teams with a vast pool of players not when its limited.
It doesn't really matter Capello or anyone else for Euro 2012 though. Doubt they would go very far anyway - the expectation is always too high for them. |

Fair enough...
Harry's playing games though... clearly. He dreams of taking hold of England. But you're right - he's being set up for failure.
Capello - I dunno. He wanted to bring in the youth. Where is it? He's left us with an aging squad of non-believers - lacking in so much confidence. The boys can say all they want - but the style of play is not confident... it's full of fear.
Jones, Wilshire, Kelly, Sturridge, Carroll :tongue3 , Wellbeck, Mceachran, Sinclair, Gibson to name a few... Where are these guys??? |

I think you just answered the question.
Other than Sturridge and Wilshere (who he capped by the way) there pretty much is no good youth players coming up.
They wasted the "Golden Generation" on Erickson... |

Contrast that to Germany and you see the massive quality gap.
Marco Reus, Mario Götze, Toni Kroos, Thomas Müller, André Schürrle, Mesut Özil, Mats Hummels, Christian Träsch, Lars Bender, Sami Khedira, Jerome Boateng.
All under the age of 24.
Throw in a few veterans (Klose, Podolski, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Rolfes, Mertesacker) and its apparent England has a long way to go. |

Yah - a few have been capped... but not enough to bring the experience they need for the euros.
My Team:
Rooney, Wellbeck, Gerrard, Parker, Milner, Johnson, Baines, Richards, Jones, Lescott or Cahil, Hart.
I'd stick Bent in for Rooney while he's out... |

Exactly. Germany is the perfect example... |

So ends another African Nations Cup and another story.
Underdogs Zambia beats tournament favourites Ivory Coast, not very far from the site where a 1993 air crash killed 18 members of Zambian national team.

18 penalties were taken in the shootout to decide the game....it was written in the stars. |
