I am glad the battle is raging.. We are finally getting some good shows.
All we need now is Spundae and Godskitchen to make a comeback |

If things would have fallen into place, there would be a Pacha LA right now.
Unfortunately, they are still tryin to work out the kinks of it.
Insomniac is monopolizing LA's big parties... |

spundae was at avalon until just recently...
"Los Angeles
STAY TUNED FOR MORE SPUNDAE LA DATES!"
thats been on the website for a month or so. i guess once they picked up their OC dates again at sutra, that they didnt need LA anymore.
insomniac doing all the big shows? really...check out the exchange friday events? too bad 1015 isnt doing edm anymore they could have piggybacked on a lot of the friday artists. |

Although some of the same types of DJs are booked by both, its hardly a "raging war" since the two have completly different business models, target audiences, and location of their operations.
oranges vs tangerines
I think that a more appropriate claim would be LA is turned into Lakers vs. Clippers! Ya the Lakers have 16 Banners on the wall, the clips have none, but they are looking to win the division and appear to be a front runner for the western conference title. With the tendencies of LA fans, I wouldnt be surprised at how many new fans the Clippers would gain should they win a title this year or next:D |

Am I wrong, or is it like this:
Giant = small events
Insomniac = giant events
I know Insomniac does club shows too, but even then they do things like Palladium and such more than the regular clubs... |

I see giant as more of an inhouse-promoter for weekly events and talent bookings that has changed venues over time. Dave started at circus, vangard, TEN, sutra, yost, avalon.
Dave used to do the Giant Villages that offered a mini-festival feel for the 21+ crowd, but those days have been gone for some time now and still were quite different than what insomniac offers.
Insomniac does annual festivals across the country (MI,CA,NV,TX) traditionally targeting a yonger crowd, as well as large scale one off events...and the (recently) casual one off trance nights at exchange. I think recent techno rooms at their CA festivals have shown that Insomniac is trying to include older, veterans of the scene, into their target market.
I think the recent exchange trance events are to simply leverage the relationships with agencies as well as the insomniac brand/marketing in order to fulfill a trance niche (hole) that is in LA. These probably require little resources allowing for Insomniac to continue working on its primary revenue drivers.(big festivals)
Totally different models with different risks and rewards. Clearly Insomniac takes more risk that require much more capital investment. But Im thinking the rewards are far greater than those of an inhouse promoter/talent booker.
I wonder how Dave and Pasqual see it, since they worked together at Vangard for so many years. Curious if they have maintained a relationship. |
