So I'm going to use simple words so that you can understand.
Deadmau5, as talent as some people think he is, is not a legend !
Danny Tenaglia is a legend, his work alone defined a whole generation worth of house music.
Daft punk are legends, because they shaped the sound of dance music and still to this day peple are inspired by their work.
Jeff Mills is a legend because he created techno
Richie Hawtins is a legend because he redefined the mix Cd (decks and effects 909) and created a new kind of music (with that album someone like Girl talk would more than likely not have existed)
Laurent Garnier is a legend, because he inspired a whole generation of French producer to create dance music (daft punk, air, cassius and so on still say that ehy are their biggest inspiration)
Pete Tong is a legend, because his work in dance music is recognized by everybody in the dance music history.
Digweed and Sasha are legends because they defined a sound (progressive anyone)
David Guetta is close to becoming a legend for taking dance music from underground clubs to the top of the charts.
I could continue on but I think you got my point. Is deadmau5 a legend ? no ! Could he become one if he continue his work as a producer and start inspiring people? Only time will tell.

For once I agree with Krinker.

Back on topic:
Do you honestly credit deadmau5's popularity entirely to his talent?
Back in 07 Daft Punk barely filled the Bell Center and I didn't see a single other 18 year old when Sasha & Diggers rocked the pepsi forum... hell electronic music was still taboo amongst everyone I met at university.
This changed dramatically over the past 5 years, starting with electro bridging the gap for those who weren't jesus posing with Tiesto... that got too gritty and tired, and next thing you know this suddenly massive youth population thirsty for electronic music jumps on deadmau5's "prog house" bandwagon (cleverly complete with the branding and concert experience they're so used to).
The kids I met who were defending the mau5 to the death 2 years ago are currently ting on him, whilst praising skrillex as their new hero. You guys here know better than anyone how fickle genre bandwagons are...
The current wave of electronic music as mainstream has been a long time coming. Alongside surges in social networking, affordable bandwidth etc... the popularity of a marketable yet moderately talented kid in a foam mouse head is far from surprising.
le freak has it right: it's generally good to wait more than 3 years before labelling someone a legend.

good post that pretty much sums up this thread.. quite the contrast from the TOTA one on the same topic :p
Much of the respect being served to deadhouse is regarding how much fame he is getting and money he's making and not in regards to the depths of his actual talent.
I think the advocate here even said that he "doesn't really follow his music."

oh i tried many times. i remember sultan/hakim/maher/so many others teaching me throughout the last few years. on vinyl. i became extremely nauseous, and we smoked a joint lol. i just can't do it, i get nervous, my heart rate skyrockets, and i wanna puke.
i realized djing was not for me (not even as a hobby) because of the unpleasant physiological reactions i had to it. i know, it sounds so weird.
i am way more interested in the management/agent aspect of the industry today.

A thread about deadmau5 on TA without every regular hating? wtf just happened.
I think Deadmau5 was right to call of Madonna. And i think that he is on his way to achieving legend status not as a Dj or as a producer but as an entertainer and hes dooing so by staying true to himself throughout the whole thing hes a geek that likes to produce music but i think he likes throwing down a good event even more. he has ways to go to be a legend but if he keeps going at it like he has been for the past 7 years he might just make it.

I dunno man, when I dig deeper I can't fully respect the talents of deadhouse nor Madonna for that matter. Legends? One is Mickey mouse/Daft Punk rip off, turning to social media and getting hype out of it, and the other one was a Marilyn Monroe/Blondie ripoff herself, who did equally outrageous stuff with the Sex book, etc.
One had sex with multi-tattooed renegade, Dennis Rodman
the other had sex with multi-tattooed renegade also, Tommy Lee :p
/slander
One has gained from being moderately talented but also from being outrageous, but so too has the other, imo. Deadhouse will become an even more household name after what Madonna pulled and how he raacted to it afterwards. I look for him to be as controversial as he is musically relevant, moving forward, if he is to sustain this "fame".
Perhaps Madonna deserves legendary status because of being able to sustain interest for few decades now, but many can argue that it isn't solely because of her talents, but also from outrageous stunts like the most recent one. They are both entertainers.. but when we blur that aspect with the musical aspect then they become something bigger than they really should be, imo.
