I haven't been here that long, only since January, so I can't talk about how Ta was before, or about previous threads, but I do agree with your statement. I have noticed there is a certain group of people on Ta who go into threads, spam them, & bash people. Thoose people are trolls, no one ever mentioned them, yet they come into a thread, & post a stupid meme, or picture. They are a group that is never adding to a discussion, the types of people that could ruin boards, due to their childish behaviours.
The mods on here so far have been pretty good, except for the one that change my sig without my permission. |
theres lots to say about the ppl that bash on here... a quick example - they think there purist's, and they ususally luv techno(which can be really if your not rolling, my opinion)...
anyways besides the point
Even with the bull, TA was still awesome... there was 2-3 roll calls a week, ppl use to be so excited about an upcoming event and they would gush all over the board (which did lead to bashing of course), hype material was always posted, there was always a review for an event, International Dj's would set up an account (right after a toronto show)and post a thank you to all that came out (Above&Beyond, and a few other big names), the event forum is still good even thou theres a few promo/club's that don't post (i'm looking right at the Hoxton for this one)....
as the older generation grows out of the scene which was mentioned earlier, the new generation has to take up there mantle... but this is not happening... and theres a combination of reasons why this is not happening...
anyways my 2 cents, im just bored at work lol |

Personally I don't even mind the purist, it is interesting to hear different points of views from music fans of different genres. At least that way their is a discussion/debate.
The people that ruin the board are the ones that don't add to a thread, or come into a thread, & derail it when they haven't even been mentioned. They are the ones that come into threads talk in their code language, & just post videos, pictures, meme's. It is like they are immature, or have mental issues. There are a couple on this, & other boards like that.
I agree that there is a certain "generation" on boards, but that is more due to people having more choices of social media to choose from these days. I Also think it is has to do with followers, visability of discussion, & control of conversations. |

I know I haven't been around as long as most people here but the main reason I don't enjoy this forum is because nearly everyone has a ty attitude about absolutely everything. I get it, parties aren't the same as they used to be and Toronto's scene is . Your griping is not going to change that. Everyone should just get along and enjoy the music that they like and discuss it if they so choose. This forum is not friendly to new members and really just seems like a spot for the same 20-30 jaded people to argue and start drama.
Prove me wrong. |

The problem is many people are too pigeon-holed in their musical tastes these days... I grew up listening to all kinds of music: disco, 80s, new wave, pop, rock, dance, freestyle, eurodance, hiphop, r&b, reggae, spanish tunes... had my david bowie/mj days.. paula abdul/janet jackson/mc hammer/vanilla ice days.... nirvana/guns & roses/pearl jam days... then eurodance/freestyle... and then trance/house/techno and a bit of dnb/jungle. MJ - Billie Jean is still in my TOP list of FAVES and I doubt that will ever change. Guess what, all those genres I list? I STILL listen to them all. Is Trance my preferred form of EDM? YES. Would I hate it if that was all there is? YES. Do I care for dubstep? Not as much as other genres I listed but to each their own!
In the rave days you were exposed to different genres so you could get a taste of different sounds/DJs -- it was then up to you to find that music (online or record shops) and ask others about what they like. Now, the mass media machine force feeds you from all sides so you're inundated with 'new' things (music and otherwise) so there is really little time (for most) to develop their own unique tastes/sounds.. so they follow the herd...over the cliff... into an endless sea of mediocrity.
We're spoiled now... online/streaming radio everywhere... mobile phones that do everything... and yet it seems lots of people are more miserable than ever! Once people start doing things because they love doing them, without harming others, and without being fake about their motives than maybe things will change.
It's like they say, they don't make stuff like they used to... so sometimes not all things that are old should be discarded for the latest thing. I've always been a technology nerd but only if that technology helps me do something that I can't already do... I don't care if it's the latest and greatest upgrade/product/whatever just so I can say I 'own it' or 'have it'. It's just like in university when a 'new' edition of a textbook comes out that is 95% the same as the previous version... but they just change some questions/answers/examples around and fix some typos (that a lazy editor didn't catch the first time) so they can make some more $ off of cash strapped students.
/end rant |

No way.
Message boards are alive and well, but social media may have helped to thin them out a bit (for the better?).
When I want to discuss something specific (example, antenna design for over the air HDTV), am I going to go to facebook? Ah no. I'm going to the Digital Home Forum, to ask experts, and enthusiasts about their opinions.
Add to that, FB is just becoming a digg or reddit type place. People are just reposting articles or meme's that they like. |

take it all with a grain of salt |

good rant...
honestly it's easy as this, if you got nothing positive or construtive to add to a thread then don't post...
it's like how a noob will come on here and ask a simple question about the guv... but instead of a member answering the simple question, their will be 2 or 3 pages of members saying "the guv is being closed and there building condos"... like really?
ppl will leave this site believing that stuff... it's not like talking to someone in person and they can see the smile on your face as your messing with them... just answer the pour noob's question and the thread will disapear in a week making space for a better thread... |

I think its a case of, you get out, what you put in.
The 'jaded' types were even around when I first joined in 2002. But, I continued to go through the TL forum, new releases, and eventually TOTA.
10 years later, I get a lot out of the site still!
I've almost completely missed most of the 'drama' in the past few years, because I stay out of the threads. Its just not worth my time. |
