metropolis/telus theatre just got ed. the only reason there were EDM events there was because of the capacity. with this place metropolis is in the hole

both of those venues SUCKED compared to this :) ;)

esp telus theater (the worst in terms of vibe, decor, SOUL)

(and yes far to expensive for anything really underground)

i'm not hating...i just don't think montreal is a big enough city to have a 4000 person venue packed every weekend.

but wait, is it open every weekend, or does it open only for special events?

if it's only opened for special events, then yes, i think it will work for sure. i just think that to be consistently packed on a weekly basis is a challenge in this city in general, let alone for a venue of that size.

nooo it's not a nightclub by any means

just a venue for big parties (i agree a nightclub that size would never ever work)
acronym
As far as I can tell, here's the list of events they've held so far:

October 14, 2011 - Skrillex
May 24, 2012 - Moby
June 7 - Tiesto
June 9 - David Guetta

Upcoming:

Jue 15 - Laidback Luke, Benny Benassi
June 23 - Porter Robinson

--

Not exactly every weekend, and each of these events could definitely be considered special events since they're all international headliners.

4000 person capacity? that place will never be filled unless it's a guetta/tiesto type booking. i hope i am proved wrong.

i disagree. dance music hasn't been this popular since the 90's, even if the popular stuff happens to be of the ty variety. Some people will go just to party like Bal en Blanc without giving a about music, so long as the Grey Goose is flowing and fake are present(to be fair i like fake :p). Just the fact that there is booze, means people are likely just to go because they want to get drunk and heard about this new big club, which compared to afterhours, just doesn't happen much.

Add the fact that alcohol means sponsorship, it has more chance of working in this climate than not. I will go when they book Pauly D and DJ Jazzy Jeff. We live in an MTV world right now like it or not.

The good news? Today's ty music fans are tomorrow's "underground" (i really hate that word) fans. If you can convert even 10% of the noobs, you could see a spike in afterhours attendance, and tourism during big weekends. The amount of underage (in the states aka people less than 21) will flock to here for this ...and it is no chance that this "new" ty type of dance music is huge among this age group. I mean if anyone will leave the house wearing mouse ears past that age should probably be a registered sex offender.
