That is if it stays open. Many people heard that in 6 months it will be closing because of condo/hotel development, thing is the hotel/condo that was going to be there from what I recall the project is on hold. |

| It may hurt afters a bit but NCG closes at 3 and is booking fluff for the most part. It's too big as well so it shouldn't cut into the afters market too much, imo. |

First time I walked in there I said to myself that if bars would stay open till 6 or later, like in Europe, NCG would replace the afters. |

Thats exactly the problem; that it closes at 3. NCG is like going to Bal En Blanc every weekend but the party ends at 3 and you have your fun and don't have to be up all night to listen to 'quality' music..
The afterhours scene needs the youngsters to thrive, and these youngsters are getting their fix elsewhere. There's so many parties in this city, you don't need to go to an afterhours anymore to listen to quality music.
I heard both Stereo AND Circus are hurting. |

even the sasha gig would be questionable there, imo... downstairs is too small for him and the upstairs holds a good 2000 ppl, he may be too small of a draw for the massive upstairs/VIP areas, I dunno.
However, it would be great to hear some progressive edm on that main floor.
But as Markus says, once NGC gets some momentum and exposure, then we could see more 'deeper' edm bookings. We'll see... |

I finally have something to answer when tourists ask me "where should we go out in Montreal".
New City Gas will do fine without having to book big DJs. During summertime, they have a huge outdoor terrasse for their 5 a 7 (and it's been packed every Thursday). They have the "lounge" for smaller events that can give the feel of a smaller club. And of course they have the larger room for bigger nights. If you think about it, people pay that kind of ticket prices to go to certain afterhours and see big name DJs. NCG will attract more people given their regular 10pm-3am club hours.
Producers/promoters (such as Produkt) don't have to pay for room rentals because they (partly) own the place which allows to lower ticket pricing (eg Axwell for 35$ presale vs what it would cost to have him at the Bell Centre). The customer then spends that saved cash on alcohol (which I find is priced similarly to most up-scale Montreal nightclubs).
I wish them a long run because that kind of venue was much needed in Montreal! |

Actually it was horrible. When we got there the music was no where near loud enough. The line for the drink tickets was 35 min long. When pan-pot came on the police shut the party down. Due to some kind of mayoral conflicts with the sonar and off-sonar events...... We didn't bother trying to get our money back for the drink tickets cause the line wasn't moving at all, due to the fact people were just squeezing there way in front of people. Afterwards getting back was a nightmare because the venue was on a mountain and we had to fight with a thousand other people trying to get a cab. At least RA refunded our money..... That wasn't the only (off-sonar/fact party) shut down. |

| It was on this thread. The original post was irrelevant. I guess my reply to it was as well. Anyways back to New City Gas.... Still would prolly stick to my usual Montreal spots for my yearly visits. Karma, Circus or Stereo. |

Went for the first time for Armin ...
Maybe it was not the best night to discover that new place because it was packed as hell.
And it was so hot that the sweat was falling from the roof, they should really invest in a good ventilation system or at least open some doors in the main room.
Drinks are very expensive too.
I'll go again for Ferry, I hope it will be less crowed.
Other than that, it's been a while I was waiting for a club like this to open, so hard to complain ... but Guvernment is still better and doesnt close at 3. |

they put posters, tape and stufff to block the ac from coming out so that it gets hotttttt and people buy more water or drinks..... everytime ther is a 'big" dj coming,it gets very packed!!!
ferrry plays electro,dub,trouse now....he's dead.....
good luck for hallloweeen, will liekly be packed like armin....
They have potential if they dont freakin overselll every big event to make $$$$$$$, hope they bring someone like sasha there lol |

| the posters and tape makes no sense since they could just do what every other place has since turning off the cold water became illegal ....turn the ac off/down and pretend that it is broken if someone asks. |
