okkkk it's a venue for larger events only, got it.
for some reason, i thought it was a regular club open on fridays and saturdays every week. that's why i was like whaaaatttt.
that closes that lol.
and jay, i agree about your mtv generation comment, but i think the biggest factors are indeed alcohol & sponsorships, like you mentioned. great post :) |

| add to this the work they did on the quartier des spectacles, and there are actually more interesting possibilities than before. |

I'm seeing 10-6AM hours for these events and, for example, the Laidback Puke and Benassi gig is only $30-40.. so hybrid afterhours/club type of thing too?
That could cut into a small niche of clubbers who would otherwise attend the other afterhours if no such options exist. |

where did you see this? I thought the city wasn't giving out permits for that anymore. They tried a 10-6 a few years ago and it only lasted one or 2 weeks no? Someone who knows better correct me please, but doesn't the city only issue permits for after 3am parties a limited amount of times per year per venue? |

I just did a google search and added clubzone to it :p
But yeah, I don't trust that source entirely so I wanted to see if someone on here could confirm. Those 10-6 hours could affect a lot of things, imo.
The douches that complained to me last month during Creator's set about getting shot down by girl after girl and then promptly left at 4AM will love this :p |

that listing says 10-3AM but event details says 10-6, but I'll go with what you're saying, that makes more sense.
So that's good news for Circus, Stereo and Red Lite.. the random, straying douche dollar can still be made :p |

| Could all of you's go to the club, more then 1 time and then comment ? just a plain simple suggestion ? clubs never last anyway, max 2 to 3 years so its not like this club is gonna be any different. Now if they have 10h00 to 06h00 well ive been asking myself for quite a while now why the hell Montreal dont have that. At least its a fresh new place to ear good music, possibly see/meet people that dont just look at themselves or their I-Phones. For myself if video killed the radio star i say I-Phones killed the dance floor vibe. :( |

4000 is an exaggerated figure, its more like 2500, 3000 over capacity.
That's from what I've seen firsthand, I didn't see the other "hidden" rooms... anyways, is there potential? yes... but not for long imo.
That area is (very) quickly densifying and becoming residential, it won't be long before new citizens start crying foul on the traffic it brings. |

From an article in La Presse:
"L'arrivée de la New City Gas est une bonne nouvelle pour les amateurs de musique. Avec sa capacité de 2000 à 3000 places, elle est de la taille du Métropolis, qui peut réunir un maximum de 2300 têtes. La configuration des deux salles est toutefois fort différente. Outre deux mezzanines, la New City Gas s'apparente davantage à un hangar puisqu'elle est rectangulaire et sans balcon avec un haut plafond cathédrale."

Yup exactly, 2500 cap with 3000 overcap.
It's an amazing venue and montreal needed it, nice to see produkt's own Alex investing some serious money in something very interesting, lot's of people have been scared to make this sort of investment lately.
If they fill up for Porter Robinson + Mat Zo show they are gonna roll on glory. |
