I would have pictured Ferry and MANY other DJs selling out before Markus.

Markus regularly plays clubs until close, dropping 6 hour sets almost weekly, sometimes more. Other than a poppy track (Alesso's remix of Pressure, for example) every few hours or so, his sets are dark moody and techy like they've always been.

Do You Dream had some pop-tastic tracks on it, but lots of great trance tracks as well. Overall his BPM range has dropped a bit, but that's just because the BPM range of his style of trance has also dropped with the additions of new artists like Mr. Pit, Grube and Hovesijofoesppeneinfeinfeojl, Nifra, KhoMa, etc. The concerns that "Scream" might have some cheese on it are valid; it probably will have a few cheesy tracks. Will his live sets change one bit? Probably not.

These, to me, are not signs of a DJ selling out. These are signs of a DJ staying true to his game. I'm calling it right now; Markus will die before he sells out (unless underground trance dies completely, in which case he'll probably just off himself :stongue: )

Agree with the Markus comments... He's one of those vew artists that wants to break into the deeper darker and more underground elements of electronic music (Dakota album-type stuff). Maybe he feels like he can't venture too far or he'll lose his footing in popularity. If he ventures out toward the territory of being a dark techno DJ, he may lose the trance fans and might not necessarily gain the techno following.

The quality of his recent productions is pretty debatable; in my opinion his sound and style has downgraded, BUT it has not gone cheesy and it doesn't really sound like 600 other producers (the way every other big guy out there now does). However, as a DJ, and based on the music he signs and his side projects, I can't really see Markus Schulz selling out. Dakota seems to be the sound he wants to be, "Scream" seems to be the album he feels like he needs to make. I respect him for that!

Compare him to the other artists in the Top 20 range and I think he's pretty legit. Dude can rip an extended set like no other in his genre or level of fame.

THIS. Dakota really seems like his way of making the music he wants to make. And really, even his "borderline cheesy" tracks he releases as Markus are still pretty good for what they are.

All around huge respect for the guy, and I definitely don't see him selling out anytime soon, barring random acts of the god I don't believe in.

Wow...this is horrible. I couldn't listen to more than a minute of this.

surely to be a hit at all of the tween birthday parties this fall.

I should clarify my comments.

I am not doubting Markus as a DJ, I've seen him probably a half-dozen times and he's NEVER disappointed. I have the upmost respect for him as a DJ because he will NOT play less than 3-4 hours, preferrably more.

As for him as a producer, I do love him as well, one of my top guys. But lately it seems I've liked his productions under his Dakota name rather than Markus. I did like Progression and DYD, so I'm holding out hope Scream will be a good addition to the collection.

You read my mind, lol. I know its kind of like living in the past too much, but this is the Ferry that encouraged me to get into trance:) I so wish he would sound like this tomorrow night; if not the old G&D, then, at least, the old Ferry...but, alas, he won't:(

So if another vocalist sang the track say someone more in the EDM field, would the song still suck?

In my honest opinion... yes. It wasn't just the vocal part of the song that was bad.

I posted the Youtube vid in the beginning of the thread for those that want to have a listen.

i didnt listen to it at first simply just to aviod the cheese
but i just did and i agree...
nothing exciting about it at all
and not just cause it's a vocal. producers can still make a solid vocal track
the song is just outright terrible/a recipe for a radio hit

I dont like the song regardless, but I would put a months pay that, if Betsie Larkin or Jes sang the vocals, there would be no death threats, no "sell-out" talk, no extreme rage....just a discussion on how the song isnt very good.

Or just no discussion because it was a ho-hum track and would never really catch anyone's attention. Its not like Ferry hasn't produced duds before too.
