Texting while out with others

People are conveniently connected to social networks via smartphone apps, planning for meet-ups at a cafe or an event has never been easier! but...
Does anyone consider it rude or inconsiderate to whip out the phone to answer a text while in the middle of conversation with the person/people you're with? I wait until there's an opening to check who's texting so as to not interrupt communications between me and the person I'm talking to (or come off as lacking interest) then I might send out 1 or 2 texts and give the rest of my attention to the people I'm with. I've seen where people would be occupied with their phone for almost an entire a hang out session and then I read this..

Well personally I know my girlfriend likes to go on top during sex just so that she can keep texting during.

Kidding btw, but I have heard some chicks do this and I found it kind've funny |

| The last girl I was seeing was terrible for this. Not just texting, but also looking at Facebook or the news on her smart phone. While I was talking to her. That's worse, because at least a text is an alert that somone else is talking to you. Looking up a news feed mid-conversation is just rude. Now she's moved away, but my Facebook feed is constantly clogged with banal updates from her, sometimes three or four updates every day. |

That's nothing :p
I'm already on 5 today, mostly check-ins, though. But I flew (you hear that OrangestO, I flew) to Barcelona earlier and airport check-ins are obligatory.... and Stu also wanted a picture of the Paella I had for dinner.
Damn you, Stu! |

ing hate when people do this . If I'm out with people and we're trying to meet up with other people then I'll check my phone, or if I need to let someone know something/figure something out, but otherwise I just keep my phone in my pocket and don't think about it. I normally will check it if it vibrates, because it might be important, but I won't reply until whoever I'm with goes up to the bar/bathroom, etc.
A few months ago I was quite saddened when I was out for dinner with some people and they thanked me for being so mature and respectful as to not text. That's not something that should be seen as exemplary or special. |

| I can't say I mind. As long as the person can keep the topic of the conversation going, it just gives me liberty to do whatever I feel like doing while I chat as well. |
