Wise move. That was insanely disrespectful.

You must send me a heartfelt apology, otherwise I will make sure your heartless, deplorable ass be banned for a while, a long while.

Princess Mononoke is also really damned excellent.

I think you probably just don't like film, Lira.

I do, actually, and I'd even say I'm a fan of Japanese cinema, with Isao Yukisada being my favourite director (I loved Go, and Parêdo is really fun). Miyazaki and Kurosawa, however, both rub me the wrong way because they're too damn nationalistic - the only film by Kurosawa I've ever enjoyed being his adaptation of Dostoyevsky's "The Idiot" because he had to pipe it down a bit... but, really, "Spirited Away" is just a Japanified version of Alice in Wonderland, with the interesting bits cut out. The scene in the bathhouse from "Spirited Away" is still the most cringe-inducing scene my corneas have been struck with to this day.

Really?
In Nausica of the Valley of the Wind, the Earth is practically destroyed!

Is it? Well, I stopped watching his stuff after a while (there's no point in forcing myself to watch cartoon after cartoon if there isn't a single one I enjoy), but I'll try to check it out :)

Miyazaki does a good job at what he aims for, and Princess Mononoke is purty neat.

I'm not sure what it is that he aims for, but if he wants to blend fantasy with a "traditional Japanese style", then reading Akutagawa beats the hell out of watching any of his works, in my humble opinion.

Although, the best of his works also happens to be "inspired" by Dostoevsky, being the one thing he and Kurosawa have in common, heh.

Twilight, DEFINITELY this movie series! Horrible story, horrible acting, just horrible everything. This makes me think and I must say anything with Kirsten Stewart in it is a piece of trash (she ruined Snow White and the Huntsman on her own!).

I usually am very easy with movies, I watch every genre out there. The trick is to be able to watch the different kind of movies with a different approach. For example, you don't watch Requiem for a Dream the same way you watch The Avangers. If you do, you're going to have a bad time. But watching Twilight was the worst kind of torture I have ever been through (no, I didn't turn it off halfway. I always finish a move, no matter which movie it is).

Yeah, that's the impression I got, but the style itself is that of vacuity.

Well that's the point. Driver is a guy who wants to be a real hero, the one from the movies, and he gets the looks right, but he's ed up on the inside. In other words, he's all style and zero/disturbing content. As I wrote somewhere else, the film is Driver - it has a nicely stylized retro look that's contrasted with some brutal violence that jumps out at you all of a sudden. It is a tragic deconstruction of an archetypal heroic figure.

I don't think Twilight is a well-regarded movie. No one takes screaming tween girls opinions seriously.

If it only stayed with those tween girls...if only... This abomination is spread far wider than just that group, sadly! But you're right a lot of people, including me, don't see those movies as well-regarded. Though the whole hype around it reaches far beyond these target audience groups to even my newspaper! The theater I go to usually is even hosting a Twilight special night soon, a whole marathon of all the movies including the upcoming release. Goes without saying that I will avoid the theater at all cost during that time.
Sleightful
The Hunger Games. Not sure how I was dragged to witness it but it was just an awful attempt at any genre. I can not for the life of me understand why people swoon over it. It's just ridiculously predictable and optimistic for a supposed deathmatch. Battle Royale had that concept done right imo.

You know it's meant for teenagers, right?

Who haven't seen Battle Royale because they're Murcans, right?
