Haha, that does sum it up a lot. :p
You're probably right about the French cheese thing is what I was saying. As far as ANY imported cheese, I have to say it's not true. The store had raw milk cheese from Spain and Italy and no indication on the labels that they were aged at all. All of the aged cheeses said for how long they were aged.
Trying to get these pics uploaded. I don't have a memory card on my phone so trying to figure out how to get this sent via bluetooth or something.
Edit: How do I upload a pic to TA or what's a good site to use? |

Edit: , you're probably right even without the notice on the package saying that it is aged...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchego
"Official Manchego cheese is to be aged for between 60 days and two years."
The other cheese from Italy that I was looking at is this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ricotta
But I stand down. I guess it doesn't need a label to say whether it's aged or not. |

Ricotta cheese is godly :eyespop:
That, and I'm apparently the only one of my friends that LOVES eating properly aged romano cheese just on it's own. I actually found a pretty awesome way to eat them - put a piece of romano in my mouth and pop a cherry tomato in with it, yummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm |

| i hold an export/import licence for the us, i don't need wiki because you have to know all of the regulations before getting one. i'm not going to export cheese either, it's just part of the process. i'd be dumb if i didn't get one before moving here. teaching isn't going to make me rich. i also can't send you kinder eggs, ammunition and guns, no problem. |

It's a shame, some of these laws that block people from being able to enjoy some of the finer things in life. It's funny because one of the laws in PA is that a store can not sell raw cream, yet it's perfectly legal to buy Raw Milk, which I could just scoop the cream from. I'd much rather be able to buy it from the store then go through all of that time and effort to do it myself, not to mention, remove some of the fabulousness from my own milk in order to get it.
Thanks for the schooling by the way. |

I bought some cheese at the store, and I thought it would have a nice sharp taste, but it just smelled like really bad farts. Good thing it wasn't too expensive. |
Check, I guess no-one here will be surprised the Dutch won a "cheese" contest ;)

I don't think Salmonella or Listeria are terribly communicable, so it sounds like the problem would probably take care of itself in a most conclusive manner. |

Oh I see. Because it doesn’t happen to you then it doesn’t happen, right? :haha:

The rate of outbreaks caused by unpasteurized milk (often called raw milk) and products made from it was 150 times greater than outbreaks linked to pasteurized milk, according to a study by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The 13-year review also revealed that the states where the sale of raw milk was legal had more than twice the rate of outbreaks as states where it was illegal.
The study, published Feb. 21 in the CDC journal Emerging Infectious Diseases, reviewed dairy product outbreaks from 1993 to 2006 in all 50 states. The authors compared the amount of milk produced in the United States during the study period (about 2.7 trillion pounds) to the amount that CDC estimates was likely consumed raw (1 percent or 27 billion pounds) to determine the 150 times higher rate for outbreaks caused by raw milk products. Raw milk products include cheese and yogurt.
The study included 121 dairy–related disease outbreaks, which caused 4,413 illnesses, 239 hospitalizations and three deaths. In 60 percent of the outbreaks (73 outbreaks) state health officials determined raw milk products were the cause. Nearly all of the hospitalizations (200 of 239) were in those sickened in the raw milk outbreaks. These dairy-related outbreaks occurred in 30 states, and 75 percent (55 outbreaks) of the raw milk outbreaks occurred in the 21 states where it was legal to sell raw milk products at the time. The study also reported that seven states changed their laws during the study period. |

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), there were 86 reported food poisoning outbreaks from raw milk between 1998 and 2008, resulting in 1,676 illnesses, 191 hospitalizations, and two deaths.
Raw milk is responsible for nearly three times more hospitalizations than any other foodborne disease outbreak, says Hannah Gould, Ph.D., senior epidemiologist with the CDC's Enteric Diseases Epidemiology Branch |
