Gotcha.

Random story time:

I grew up in a country town about 1.5 hours north of Brisbane here. Very much a hippy town, but there were/are also a lot of dairy farms up there. Obviously, you can buy normal milk anywhere, but the hippies wanted their milk to be as natural as possible (ie. straight from the cow's tit). That's illegal to sell though, as I mentioned.

One of the smarter hippies looked into the law, found a loop-hole, spoke to a couple of the diary farmers, and started packaging up "pure" milk. Completely un-ed-with, in bag thingies with a tap, similar to how you'd buy 'goon'/boxed wine. The catch was that he had to call it "Pet Milk" and label it as "Not fit for human consumption - Animal food".

Everyone in town knew about it though (I suspect he had a few locals put money into the venture), and people would buy it all the time, it was wildly popular. It was also seriously ing good. If you've ever compared the tastes of milk directly from a cow, and the stuff you buy in a store, the difference is MASSIVE.

I heard a few years ago that he got shut down anyway, despite the loophole in the law. He made serious bank on that venture though, lol.

Milk is bad for your health once you've reach adulthood.

OT: I drink it with coffee from time to time, but used to drink warm chocolate every morning as a kid.

Can one of you at least provide some sort of reasoning behind this bull, beyond flatly stating "It's bad"? I drink loads of milk, and I'd love to know what adverse effects it's apparently having on my health.

yeah, sure it's not.

I love a good david mitchell rant.

Anyway, still drink milk though not as much as only a year ago. Since i switched from drinking instant to proper coffee i dont need to dilute it with three times as much milk as "coffee" to make it taste less disgusting. Still have an occasional glass if im having toast with jam for breakfast or if i dont have time to eat a proper meal but need something to fill me up for a few hours.

It can be one of the cause of calcification of arteries, the so called Mönckenberg arteriolosclerosis as well as playing an important factor in the creation of kidney stones (~90% of them are due to high calcium intake /or pathologies regarding hyperparathyroidism). An urologist I know with 30 years of experienced said dairy products are the worst thing that exist, especially for his branch. The high intake doesn't mean 100% risk that you will develop these conditions taken as they (partially) are genetically predisposed and have to do with other biological parameters as well, but nevertheless they can have negative effects.

I recommend the following books:

Bate's Guide to Physical Examination (Lynn S. Bickley)
The Essentials of Pathophysiology (Carol Mattson Porth)

the kidney stones "link" is a myth, and you are stupid.

Without a shadow of a doubt you are more qualified to answer this than an esteemed university professor with decades of experience.

appeal to authority noted.

what system-j was asking for is perhaps a link to a some peer-reviewed research that substantiates your nonsense. the opinion of 1 dude, university professor or not, is worthless.

i haven't been able to find ANY research that supports your claims about calcification either, certainly not as it pertains to milk. it certainly doesn't seem to have any stronger relationship than any other source of vitamin D.

a professor at my university said you love the taste of penis.

You might be right, I haven't checked the subject too much on the internet. The comment was made out of a general consensus that higher calcium intake can lead to hypercalciuria and thus kidney-stones.

I only drink coconut milk now. it has 50% more calcium (good for your bones) than dairy milk, and less fat as well. plus it tastes better in my opinion. i tried drinking regular milk (2%) after switching to coconut milk and it tasted sour to me.

as far as the whole "milk is bad for you" thing - one of the reasons I made the switch was to find a healthier alternative (without going to skim milk...gross) and also to reduce the amount of animal protein in my diet. plant protein ftw!
KilldaDJ
yeah i'll drink milk.
