we definitely don't hold the door, if the line isn't moving it's because we are at capacity. it's really as simple as that, we're an intimate venue, that's the appeal + magic of that space imo

carola hype has been pretty crazy for the last 4 years... ever since that insane halloween/gallery set, I've made it a priority to see him everytime he plays

I feel like Footwork turned a blind eye to what they knew would be mayhem at the door. There was ZERO line control whatsoever. With a guestlist of 1400+ I don't understand why this wasn't thought out better on part of the club. I was in line by 9:20, more than early enough to have gotten in given the amount of people that were already in line. But watching endless amounts of people cut line, and the line expand to fill the entire width of the alley...I waited for over two hours and didn't get in. To see the owners standing there taking pictures of the line with grins on their face wasn't overly professional given their total oversight on managing this process.

Not impressed.

sorry you see it that way, but really it all went pretty smooth...

we were a bit delayed opening due to Carola soundcheck (they arrived late from Stereo)

(re: people cutting in line)
there were some of Marco's people (management + crew) who had line bypass were being let in b4 the lineup

Sorry, but you are talking absolute nonsense. The bouncers at Footwork generally do a great job.

TiL even had Adam Beyer and Marco Corala spinning one night on the same bill and it was a breeze to get in.

yeah, because TIL is twice the size and those djs probably didn't have half the draw they do now

That is the gift/curse that is a small venue. You get to see a big DJ in a small setting, but not everybody get's to experience it.

great point

Maybe next time a draw like Carola is booked at a small venue, tickets should be pre-sold

for this and any other dj that would draw even close to this many people
jon jon
adv tix would never work for an event like this... don't u think we thought of that? lol :p we'd have to hold the door until all the ticket holders were let in first

people would be complaining about not getting a ticket as well lol

a big part of this event was the xxx-tended early start, it's a shame he was delayed due to stereo

The line up situation was a show at best. Im sure Footy staff knew what was in store and should have done more to prepare

Of course the Footwork stuff what was up. It's like that every time a popular DJ arrives. It's a combination of not preparing and the security guards letting certain people in based on their feelings.

But you guys DO hold the door. I saw groups of people leaving Footwork for Lee Foss, yet the security guards would only let in like 2 people every 15 mins on average. Some people got in with some magical pass and cut the line, while others had nothing and got in. I some how didn't have this magical pass, and the guy made me wait, and this was already after god knows how long. It was cold as well.

If part of having an 'intimate' and 'special' venue is treating their patrons like dirt, then I guess it is.

You mean the only thing making footwork popular are two important aspects to clubbing? How dare they take care of their core business functions.

A friendly bar staff and the DJs are two importent aspects of a nightclub, but it's not everything. You're acting as if that supersedes all other factors. I'm sure having Marco Corola play in a junkyard would be great, right? The venue itself matters too.

TiL for example, is a better venue. Now it's not as good, becuase they don't have their Friday nights with major DJs anymore, but when they did, you didn't have to worry about getting in really, and the venue itself looks better than Footwork, with it's hardwood floors, chandeliers etc. And the crowd is better looking, even though they might not be clued in on the whole scene, everyone has a good time. You don't always need to have chin scratchers in front of the DJ booth taking notes. This is a party, and it's good just to see people appreciating what's going on. OH yeah, and it's much larger too, so you have more room to dance.

I guess it's different strokes for different folks, I know you guys complain about the drunken idiots at TiL, but I had no problem with them plus hotter chicks come out there as well. I just can't understand why anyone would think still think that Footwork was better than TiL around the time when TiL had those great Friday nights.

don't even bother replying - ignore list was made for peeps like this

Don't you have better things to do...like colouring in colouring books?

Anyway, I'm talking to a wall here, you guys will still mindlessly defend Footwork for no reason and ignore the hard facts about this place. It's nice they provide a small venue for major DJ's to play in, but it's not worth the hassle of wondering if you're gonna get in when the security treats their patrons like crap. This scene was never built on who gets in to a club based on their status or money. I think that's my biggest issue, that they're selectively choosing who gets in. I know other EDM clubs around the world do that too, but that doesn't make it right for them either. I expect this sort of stuff at top 40 clubs, but not EDM clubs. Along with things like dresscode and stuff...it's really ruining the essence of what this music is about.

so what's wrong with that? treat it like a concert. only people with tickets get in, simple as that. not all hardcore fans are able to make it to a club downtown at 9pm, but most of them would've bought tickets in advance. the biggest fans wouldn't have a problem finding tix for sale on craigslist/kijiji or going down to the club to see if anyone is selling extras. Making the tickets an extra $10 or $15 would also make sure the people that want to go the most get tickets (and would cover the lost bar sales from not having the club fill up as fast). Stereo charged $50+ for tickets and I'm sure that separated the hardcore fans from the people just looking to party to a dj they heard good things about.

If you've already pre-sold tickets at the door then who cares about the people waiting without tickets? You've already made your money at the door. Honour those who made the effort and planned to be there way before.

Just my two cents.

Maybe just release half advance tickets, half walk ins to make both sets of people happy.

Bang on.
At least I brought a traveller to the line up so it wasn't a total buzz kill.
LightsOut
I think all this negativity could have been easily avoided if the bouncers/security made it a point to ensure the line was orderly, and not a complete free for all like the pictures suggest it was.
