In what way disturbed?

It can be disturbing when Santa is used as a weapon by parents. Children are vulnerable to stupid parents using Santa as an excuse to make their kids follow orders. It can get bad to the point where the kids are not able to sleep anymore and they begin to fear Santa. That's one way it can go horribly wrong. I'll admit that all the ways it can go wrong probably have more to do with stupid parents than with Santa Claus.

If your kid isn't stupid, they should be able to figure out that Santa isn't real on their own.

And if they are really smart they make their parents think they still believe while they already know he isn't real :)

Haha, this! I pretended for a few years just for my little sister's sake.

I figured I was getting presents, so I owed it to someone. It's like when you're throwing peanuts to a monkey- he'd better goddamn dance, you know?

I agree

I'm 26 years old and I still enjoy Christmas and it has nothing to do with believing in Santa Claus.

Since you're 26 I wouldn't hope so

The only reason I brought it up was because certain people were saying that Christmas is ruined for their children when they find out.

And as i said earlier. I agree that Christmas isn't necessarily ruined if they find out, but if the kids think it's fun and exiting to believe in santa, there's no reason telling them santa isn't real.

fixed for analogous purposes.

But the fact is the early onset of teaching children to believe in illusionary folklore could stem into a later in life continuing pattern.

I still cannot fathom how speaking to some religious people they still hold the literalism of relgious text to heart. I can only speculate that it has to do with their upbringing generation after generation in believing what has been told to them. Understandably, this may have been logical in a time where we (as a species) knew little, but from the 20th century onwards (at the latest) there really is no excuse.

Sure it's socially acceptable to deny the existence of santa at an early age, but what about the earth and all its beings created in 7 days? The evolution of man? The fallacy of Homeopathy? Gay rights?

Yes.... it's dumb to debate about things. Let's all just stop debating and lobotomize ourselves.
