My grandfather used to dress up as Santa :(
I've done it before, too, just for the laughs it provides.
Kids aren't stupid, and to ruin something so innocent for them is pretty ty. You're not doing them a favor by "exposing" the truth about a traditional joke that they will figure out on there own, eventually.
It's not that serious.
As for telling your kids they got dropped off by a stork, well, that's ing stupid. It's not hard to explain love between two people and yada yada yada without divulging details about them being conceived in the doggystyle position. |

| Honestly, if my parents were stupid enough to "expose" the truth about Santa to me, I'd want to know I was left by the stork. Just to know there's no way I could possibly be related to such s. So there goes that argument! |

| Now that I think about it, I don't think my parents ever told me Santa didn't exist. I just kind of put 2 and 2 together after I walked in on them in their room wrapping a sea full of presents the night before Christmas. |

I figured it out pretty young...like 5 or 6. And I remember still wanting to believe in all of it, and hoping my parents wouldn't find out that I knew for fear of hurting their feelings. If it taught me anything about my parents, it wasn't that they were liars - it was that they put a lot of effort into making my sister and I feel special.
I know I was only a kid, but I really think that was a defining moment in my life...probably the first conscious change in my relationship with my parents. |

Yeah, I figured it out on my own, but when I was about 8 years old, I decided to grill my mom about it. I wanted answers. She straight up told me the truth on the matter, and that she knew I hadn't really believed in it for a while, but we both recognized it was this "fun" thing, so there's nothing wrong with continuing to pretend.
She thought this made a brilliant segue into telling me where babies come from though. I don't think I'll take the same approach with my kids, but she has always had a very efficient sort of personality. |
