Psyshell - 4am in Healesville [Forest Darkpsy for Forest Elves] (pg. 7)

Perhaps I misread the bit where you said it had a hypnotic foresty vibe. I assumed you were saying that forest darkpsy didn't exist and that that set was the close to it anyway (which implies it's darkpsy). I didn't check your set archive for the darkpsy section until about 5 minutes ago, I just assumed that radioactive sound was your idea of what forest darkpsy is. Yes that means I've made a mistake. Moving along please.

Fair call. All I can say is, I do indeed not have memory where I remember comments made 2 years ago accurately. Let alone the fact that, who knows, maybe I liked it one day, but it didn't stand up to listen 2/3 so I decided to leave that comment and move on. I don't remember how much I liked it back then to that level of detail.

Regardless, this still doesn't change the fact that if I want to copy someone's transitions style I'd probably rather go for a more experienced darkpsy dj who specialises in that. While not many darkpsy djs post on this forum, darkpsy mixes are not in short supply on the net at all.

Nah. Not moving on. Going back to Yin's Reign. You say now that you didn't like it and it had a poor flow? Please explain.
Psyshell
I don't remember it directly. I only remember my memory of it from 2 years ago. You've quoted text that directly contradicts my memory of it so perhaps the best thing for me to would be to listen to it again. Also, whether or not I thought the flow was good/ok/bad it doesn't change the fact that I've always consistently thought that if I was going to base a darkpsy mix's flow on anything it'd be cybernetika's warpcore 3. That that mix definitely has the best flow out of anything I've heard darkpsy wise. I realise that's moving the goal posts a bit, but we are argueing about what my opinion was 2+ years ago. I hope you don't expect me to have quite that accurate a memory. I haven't really listened to that set since but perhaps I should 1-3 times over the next few weeks to give a bit of an updated opinion on it at least.

Are you ever going to stop saying "Uh yeah, I could be wrong but still [wall of text]"? You've been wrong about every ing thing so far.
Psyshell
No.

gotta say, can't mix for , but knows how to make an epic thread! :stongue:
Psyshell
The epic thread part wasn't intentional. I just wanted people to stick to musical discussions... but no... apparently people prefer the thread to include things like "rah rah I define what is and isn't psytrance, you hold no power here" "darkpsy is too micro niche for me to run around naked in the forest; that job is for house music".

Thankyou for not making paragraphs and paragraphs of posts about how I'm a dj and you're not. At least that's to the point, which is good and what I want.

meaning the mixing was? :D

Yeh kind've, if I waited another 3 months to release the set I'd probably just never get around to doing it and abstrain from djing for yet another 3 years. Seriously though, it's my first mix in ages, I just wanted some feedback to know where to improve (which I got). It's also not like I'm some (actual) trance dj who comes here posting about how awesome "dj romania" is and how his set is going to change the trance world. At best all I've said for sure is that maybe my mix is barely worth listening to a few people... and that since it's of a rare genre here it's a good thing to have.

Do you struggle academically, Psyshell?

short bus psy.

Nope, when I was in highschool I got Bs (75-85%~) for english (like about 60% of the class for some reason). When I did chemistry I was essentially best in the class, I learnt about the same speed as about 2/3 other students but I excelled in certain areas. Quite often the teacher would come up with a quite slow method to calculate something (e.g. average isotopic mass) and I thought up a way to do it in my head which involved far fewer steps. I also realised that you could use simultaneous equations to do chemistry when my maths/chemistry teachers/books didn't at all. When I did international politics, I understandood and could explain complex class systems far better than the teacher could (this could have a lot to do with an interest in the field though). For maths, I chose one of the hard maths (out of 2 hard ones and one easy one) and found it fine, but a lot of work (it took up about 60% of my homework time). For english literature I did reasonably well, text analysis and such I was much better at than writing bog standard essays (that were marked more on grammar than understanding of the text).

That said, I only study IT now, and it's at Tafe not uni which means that I essentially only do computer related stuff, no electives or anything like that. The main skills that've gone down since then is english grammar, as well as writing large blocks of text. That said I should be able to practice that either through creative writing or through essays (writing a 2 page essay on politics and then getting feedback is quite easy on some forums). I still study science, politics, and a bit of maths in my spare time and I believe that I am more competent than ever at those. Certainly at science which is much easier to measure I find keeping up with university lectures from stanford/mit on youtube not too difficult. I'll probably continue studying for the sake of it when I get older but for now I don't have the money to goto university(instead of tafe). My mother is talking about moving out of state, and on welfare I won't have enough money to pay for rent+food let alone extras. I've had a job the past 6 months up till 2 weeks ago, but financially speaking I don't want to have to rely on that concidering certain things (like I do tend to piss people off, which presumably is bad for career prospects, at least in unskilled areas). Also, studying computers at tafe is far better than at uni. With certain degrees I can get in 18 months I'm pretty much guaranteed a 60k a year job if I can pass the Cisco exams. With some actually applied skills (like the skill of being good at choosing what system is good for what company, without having to get that from a checklist) it'd probably make finding a job after the course even easier. By the way I'm studying IT networking not programming.

I'm also studying programming in my spare time; if I code a decent game or something does that get me to be called not retarded on here? I could tell you that I successfully designed a starcraft 2 map that rose to top 5 in popularity on the starcraft 2 server, which concidering the time of release would've been played by about 40,000 people. One of my hobby plans is to do something similar, but code something cool to play from scratch for android, maybe making one game free, and another game paid for (with the first game advertising the second). My forum posts tend to be a bit crap, but I'm working on it and I love it how people assume I'm actually an idiot just because I write lots of text that doesn't flow well together.

[edit] Since apparently it's mod policy that all random personal drama gets put in this thread (sigh) proceed with whatever insults/amateur psychoanalysis you want.
