Well we both agree the catholic church is bad presumably. It's just a question similar to the one at the time of the reformation. Which is better, the catholic church becoming less bad or it pursuing such radically conservative policies that people just abandon it altogether.
I'd opt for the latter. |

| Again, this is because you have the mental capacity of a 12 year old. |

| I'll make sure to use that argument next time any differences of opinions in politics comes up. I hear it's a rather effective tactic. |

My family hasn't seemed to give two s about the Catholic church since John Paul II died.
I don't know whether that's because they're Pollacks, or because they're bad Catholics.

| I'm excited for Conclave. It's cool to see that many hundreds of thousands of people in St. Peter's Square just waiting to see the new leader of the church. |

| I hope they'll choose an African to repair their bad image |

It'd be awesome if they chose a Pope from Africa or South America. Although even black Cardinals from Africa seem to still be against contraceptives.
Maybe they could choose some dumbass 18 year old from Australia though. They seem to know what's best. |

Just as an FYI; all the flashy/valuable stuff the pope ends up getting are gifts, none of that is purchased by the Vatican. Moreover, under Roman law the pontif can neither refuse nor liquidate such gifts.
As for the Pope resigning, I view it very dimly. I'm not a huge fan of this pope; however, if one beliefs the doctrine then being the pope is a vocation that is above all others and one that necessitates a great deal of suffering and personal sacrafice. Deciding that he no longer has the strength to continue is essentially stating that he values himself (health, lifestyle, longevity, freedom, legacy, etc) over the vocation he must believe he was assigned by God (again, assuming the pope believes the doctrine). This would seem to be a rather arrogan, self-centred, wrongheaded and, to me as a Catholic, insulting decision on his part. All that said, I'm reasonably certain that we are not being given the full story here. |

just wondering how you are so familiar with 12 year olds. Like most of your insults, they are late night back to back re runs but the 12 year old one kinda made me wonder if you kids. Just curious.
Popes resigning will become more common as we are able to keep their bodies alive while their minds have been corroded years ago. People died quicker. I don't see how this is not to be expected. In terms of the running of the church, I'm pretty sure like any oligarchy, the cardinals have just as much say even if it isn't policy. |

I hope so too. Being a 19 year old from Australia I think it'd be good to get someone a bit younger than either me or the pope in charge. I'm sure a dumbass 18 year old pope would do excellent things for the world politically (in terms of destroying his own institution of course). |
