Marg said it nicely.
I wouldn't have.

You don't like it, don't click. Simple.

It was just a suggestion, if you want to review SHM events you're obviously more then welcome to, or any event for that matter.

I'm not trying to turn this into an elitest genre pissing contest, I merely suggested that maybe we focus on more legitimate forms of electonica, whether it's trance, techno, or house, instead of reviewing this bastardized electro pop stuff. Surely we can all tell the difference. Anyways, it's all good, review away.

No, not ever. I've never once been to a show where the intrinsic talent of the performers wasn't immediately recognisable. And by talent, I don't mean making little heart signs with your hands at the audience and supposedly needing 3 people to act like they're working the controls on one mixer.

Seriously, you could have the same audio/visual spectacle with an ipod plugged in onstage and I doubt anyone past the first 40 rows would know the difference.

Regardless of what you think of their music/credibility etc. ,

You gotta admit, thats is an absolutely incredible visual light show.

I can accept the title of a music snob. I'm ok with it.

A friend of mine went, and she caught up with me after the show. When she told me where she was I shook my head.

If people had fun, great. But it's not my cup of tea.

ha ha. am i in the twilight zone?

sounds so silly.

this is DJing we are talking about right?

where people choose songs to play in front of drunk people that some others made on a computer.

you all take this scene way to seriously. relax folks.

at least SHM makes their own tunes.

Also, you can't see them because they are tiny compared to the stage. lol. plus there is like 20000 people.

You can see how huge it is near the end of this video at around 4:00 when it starts to open up.

Instead, lets focus on the more legitimate forms of electronica, whether it's trance :nervous:, techno, house, whatever.

There is no such thing as "legitimate". Music is, what it is.

You either like it or you don't, but you can't invalidate somebody's work, which is enjoyed by so many others.

However, I think we can all agree that SHM, Guetta, etc., aren't really the best representation of what our "scene" is all about. In a lot of ways these types of acts have been detrimental, they're selling a bastardized version of our scene and these neon kids are eating it up because they don't know better. They're the Eiffel 65 and Aqua of modern day, yet for some reason people take them seriously. At least with Aqua and Eiffel 65 we all knew it was a fun little gimmick.

The 'scene' has changed. This is as much a part of it today, as small lounges playing obscure IDM.

I dunno. If they're on stage in front of 50k people playing a premixed cd when everyone's under the impression its live, that feels a little illegitimate to me. They're like the Lance Armstrong of electronic music. He has a lot of fans to.

Look, nobody is saying that this is not music, I don't even care for them playing in front of a million people. They brand themselves as house music which is illegitimate, there is nothing house about this . They bastardized the genre and on it and now all the youngsters think they are listening to house music. That is incorrect. Let them call themselves Swedish electro pop mafia and they can kill themselves for all I care..

Just because you can't see the DJ you can't have a good time?? Maybe it's good the DJs aren't shown properly so the crowd can focus on the music (I use that term loosely) and not DJ worshipping. I GUESS the DJ can add more hype by doing Jesus poses, air traffic control signals or whatever the hell SHM do, but honestly half these DJs we see are so boring anyway and even if they do hype up the crowd, it kinda gets old after a while. THere's only so much you can do.

SHM isn't the epitome of this scene, they don't represent "legitimate" EDM (what is legitimate though?), but I reckon them to a Michael Bay film...sometimes I'm just in the mood for some trashy CGI action and fast cuts tailored for the ADD crowd cuz I just don't want to think about what I"m seeing and just get lost in the spectacle of it all. It doesn't have to be serious all the time.

Besides...they have a few good songs that you can't help but enjoy :tongue2
