Jack Moss - Live @ J00F Editions, H Bar, Hove, 30.03.13

As many of you probably know, this is my set from the second room at John 00 Fleming's album launch party down in Brighton last weekend, which they decided to turn into a chill-out room for future events. I played from the venue opening at 21.30 to 02.30 when the room shut and everyone was sent downstairs.

This was a challenging gig for many reasons. My booth had no monitors, just a big main speaker down my left ear, which made EQing and mixing very tough. I also quickly discovered that the bass from the main room was clearly audible if I played anything beatless, which ruled out half the stuff I wanted to play and forced me to absolutely milk everything I had with a beat all night. I had pushy bar managers ing with the master gain and trying to tell me what to play, and the inevitable punters asking for Eric Prydz or trying to find out my life-story mid-transition.

Anyway, here's a reconstruction of the set, as close as I could get to replicating the transitions from memory. I personally think the flow is terrible in a lot of places, but I've had many requests to upload it so make up your own minds. Dip in and out as you please, just like you would a real chill out room.

EDIT: Many thanks as ever to Stu for his hosting. I've figured out Mixcloud playlists now so this post no longer devours your bandwidth.

Awesome, man. Giving these a whirl now.

Mother of God.

Going to queue these up.
djnitride
That is one tasty looking tracklist.

Dude:eyes:

I was expecting a more 90's tracklist but this is better. A lot of material from the past few years which is nice to see from ambient to D&B. Cold Blue and Berlin were some of my favorite tracks from
'Redshift'.

I'm currently listening to Jon's set then will move on to this. Also, did you enjoy playing a more beat-oriented set as opposed to ambient/beatless tracks?

It would have been more fun if I'd packed more tracks that were beat-oriented. As it was, I played just about everything I had with a kick-drum and it was quite stressful rinsing my CD wallet up and down for the next track. A big moment was when I played Raincry, which I'd packed at the last minute as a tribute to Scott Hardkiss. I played it about 11.30pm when the room was pretty full, just before J00F came on downstairs, and people were grooving and dancing to it, it created a great mood in the room. So I thought ", I've got to keep this going. What do I have that's anything like Raincry?" The only other early-90s Sasha-esque thing I really had was the Schmoo remix, then I had to switch to drum 'n bass because I was mixing my way down a cul de sac.

Next time there will definitely be more early '90s progressive/ambient house because it worked really well. A big lesson I learned was: always take as many tracks as possible, even if you think you may never need them.

I see you cheated with the L.S.G. segment.:p
SYSTEM-J
Haha, yes. It's all about El Tiburon really, which I've always wanted to squeeze into a set. If you listen to the way I mix it, it probably makes more sense.

I'll see how much Sendspace will let me download, I don't know what their limits are like per day or whatever. I'll give them all a proper host eventually.
SYSTEM-J
Ahhh cheers Stu, massively appreciated. Hopefully the Sendspace links are all present and correct... I was a bit baked when I was uploading them.

Lews
Listened to several of these yesterday as you put them up on Mixcloud, they were excellent hangover material! Looking forward to downloading them all and hearing the rest, now :)
Sushipunk
Well, Sendspace's limit appears to be 300MB an hour, but I got around that by changing my IP address a couple of times :o

Booyakasha.
