Ha, tbh, all the hippes turned in to yuppies when they got money. It's way easier to be spiritual when you have your own purpose built mediation room in your mansion.
Wait until you see it ;)
Back on topic. Yes, I have sued someone. And yes, I won. Landlord rented me a place, the place had some unknowns that he didn't divulge and we agreed that I would move out for a full refund. He kept my money.
I sued him and the judge listened to both of us, sided with me, then scolded the landlord who tried to freak out and got to to STFU. It was worth the 14 month process (UK) just to witness the legal slapdown.
I had my money, with interest and damages within 24 hours.
And no you wit, you shouldn't be able to sue because you slipped and didn't get injured, yet expect a payout.
I know it's walmart (lol at you for being a Walmartian) but the ridiculous payouts in the USA actually cripples business in this country and is terrible for the economy. Everything from our insurance to our cost of food has been effected by twats thinking they should get a couple of million for not looking where they are walking.
You want a lottery payout? buy a ing ticket that doesn't end up costing me anything. |

I never stated that I expected to win a lawsuit for just slipping without injury.

It's funny that even the term "yuppy" used as a pejorative seems to have lost its sting -- to me it has an aura of overseriousness and of people who post left-wing political rants on Facebook -- much like actually labeling a person "bourgeois." There's this impulse in me to reply, "Whoa there, Mr. Revolutionary." As stupid as that kind of reflexive sarcasm is...and despite the fact that I am definitely more left-wing than right. |
Oh it's not like I particularly care, I just think it's funny that all these people who met through the common ground of taking lots of drugs and dancing to silly electronic music now sit around and talk about correct suit etiquette, how they eat a balanced diet and use "I bet you don't even own any property" as a genuine insult. |

you worry about paying your 30% taxes with your "big shot" salary and 1 stream income LOL. i'll continue to pay my 11% through legal tax avoidance measures.

Karim I've heard you say this a couple of times now. what's the strategy? I bumped into a new tax bracket this year so looking to avoid hehehe. what's the dealio? |

if your in the states there are several more things you can do.
Such as buy property and write off your mortgage interest (you'll get a tax refund for that)
contributing to retirement savings plan (you'll get a tax refund on that)
invest in equities, bonds or mutual funds. Any long term gains you make on that you will only be taxed only 15 % (in the US i believe), in canada its simply half your marginal rate.
this will reduce the overall end result taxes you pay (after refund) on any income earned; from salary or other sources. |

I can't stand people who do this.
"Americans"
Yet you ing live here.
Maybe if you didn't sit on your ass all day on FB and had to actually pay for that weekly pedi/mani you'd understand the value of an opportune dollar. |
I admit, my comment was a bit unnecessary and I apologize. I have nothing against Americans. |

...and that's my point. You didn't get injured so just go about your life and stop thinking like one of those bottom feeders that think anything that could have happened to you might result in a lottery win.
I know one girl that walking near a construction site a small piece of scaffolding hit her. It bruised her shoulder.
She got $10.1m as a payout. Never has to work a day in her life. Sounds cool right?
No; Small local family run construction company that had been in operation for 3 generations had to fold because their insurance went up so high from the claim and they couldn't afford the premiums for any of their commercial projects. a little over 30 people in one town out of work.
I suppose the thing I don't like is this feeling that you could break your ankle from slipping on transmission fluid while not paying attention to where you're going, and end up with a disproportionately high payout that has consequences far beyond your medical bills, even if it is a genuine accident.
Remember the woman that fell in the fountain at a mall while texting? Yeps, tried to sue, not once but twice. First because the video embarrassed her (dismissed) and then again because no one came to her aid (dismissed - she walks off and leaves the mall immediately after it happens).
I cannot stand this type of person. |

Bruised shoulder? Yea, that's bull.
But while my OP was meant more for comedic purposes, I wouldn't shrug my shoulder (no pun intended) at a million dollar settlement if I knew I could get one.
