And Ghost peppers are deadly. Unlike anything I've ever experienced. There's a place here who make Buffalo wings tossed in Ghost Pepper sauce and after about 4 or 5 your mouth almost goes numb, and your eyes start watering like crazy. There's about 2 or 3 warnings on the menu for them, and the waiter warns you as well when you order them. They have the sauce per request in a bottle and we used to bet people $20 they couldn't eat a crisp with one drop of the sauce on it and not drink anything for 5 minutes. Almost nobody could do it.

I normally ask Thai/Indian places to double their spiciest level, and that's often good. If they don't speak much English, even better, in my experience.

I keep wanting to try a Ghost Pepper, but haven't gotten around to it.

There's a wing place near me that has a sauce with it and I know friends have done a similar thing, except the challenge is to eat like six wings without water or using a napkin, within 5 minutes, and then you can drink as much water as you want. They recorded a video of one of my friends surviving, but dear God was that man unhappy.

Yeah, the ghost pepper is pretty brutal. Even a drop of the sauce will have your mouth burning like crazy.

I think drinking water would make things infinitely worse, as the capsaicin is hydrophobic, so it would just spread the heat all around? I don't think I've ever tried anything quite that hot.

I cook with habaneros quite frequently, though - they go amazingly in a cream sauce for pasta, I find. I'll sweat like a diabetic trucker through the whole thing, but I ing love it.

Yeah, water is the worst thing to possibly drink. You'd be a lot better off drinking orange juice or milk.

What is it with men and spicy stuff? Is it like a "challenge accepted" sort of deal? I do enjoy spicy food, but it has to be flavourful and not just hot. Perhaps I just have not built enough of a tolerance for hot stuff, but I find the hot just ruins the experience of tasting the food. I love Thai and Indian spice the most.

I genuinely like the pain.

It is indeed a different experience than abstaining from the spice -and I also enjoy a good balance between the two- but nothing is quite like when your whole face is red, your head is dripping, your nose feels like every inhalation is air from Everest. Ah, self mutilation! When it gets into challenge mode with someone else though, I think it's less enjoyable; someone always ends up getting really hurt.

I have developed more of a taste for heat the older i get. I always liked a bit of kick but i find im now enjoying hotter and hotter things. its the endorphin rush you get from the spice that gets most people. One of my draftsmen is from Trinidad and he always brings me in samples of his homemade hot sauces.... whole other world of heat.... I find that when you have a low tolerance for heat, its very easy for the heat to overpower the flavour so that all you taste is heat. once you become accustomed to hotter and hotter foods, the heat doesnt wash out the flavor anymore, it just adds to it.

imo anyways...

The burn of the pain releases endorphins, which make you feel good. Also, if you notice where a lot of the spiciest foods come from, it's very hot climates. It's the perfect food for hot weather because it makes you sweat and cools you down.

I used to hate spicy food, but it has definitely grown on me in recent years.

I once found food growing on me. But I had stopped using soap, so I was in an adjustment period.

Leave Nou alone, this thread is about burritos.

Oh man, can we talk about Carribean hot sauce?? We just bought one that is hot as ..but mega delicious.

When we were in Jamaica...one of the buffets had a jerk stand, with 3 different types of jerk sauce. I tried the "mildest" one and was spitting fire out my ass all day the next day. I did not put any sauce on my chicken any of the days after that. :/

edit: the stuff we have is called 'First Love' Carribean hot sauce. Soooo good!
