| I know 99.9% of the people on these forums hate Darude, but I have yet to find a song that gets my blood pumping more than sandstorm. Given he uses the same sample every song on his entire album. I didn't say all his songs get me going, its just sandstorm. It has a different sound to it than any other trance song ive ever heard, I dont know why, I just like it. |

As the great master Tijs Verwest (aka DJ Tiesto) once said, Sandstorm is alright when you're launging in a bar drinking a beer or something like that. It's fun, but it's just that. period. that's why he NEVER EVER spun that song.
If you keep listening to trance you'll discover that trance is so much more than just fun music "that gets you going". Let's hope that your taste evolves like it did for the rest of us.
See, when you learn to read you can't possibly begin to enjoy Shakespeare right away, you'll think Harry Potter is the ultimate .
Trance is an art, it's the future of classical music and for a total understanding a developed ear is required. The fact that you enjoy Darude so much right now proves that you're still in the first baby steps stage.
Listen to great live sets from yesteryear such as Tiesto Live @ Innercity Amsterdam 1998 or Tiesto live @ Energy 2000 or Sasha Globlal Underground Ibiza. But listen to them straight-through, close your eyes, and let the music brainwash you and flow down your spine. After you understand the greatness of those sets by falling into a true state of trance, there's no way you'll go back to Darude in a serious fashion.
After that you can move on to the next level......... |

| Very well said DJ PíO. Lots of people were introduced to trance through the mainstream tracks but then then get into further and further and find all the good stuff. Weather it's hard trance, uplifting/epic or just plain trance. We've all got to start somewhere. |

well put DJ Pio, thats the best trance advise I've ever heard all day. I totally admit to being new to trance. Hell, I am a baby when it comes to trance. I just have to avoid talking so much as speedracer put it, and just sit back and read the forums, download recommended songs, sit back and 'let the music flow down my spine.' Trance is becoming more than just 'get me going' music and will become more of an all around atmospheric genre. Some day soon I'll hope to be listening to 'shakespeare' trance. For now, I'll download Tiesto @ 2000
peace. |

You're welcome bluelimitd. I just recommended Tiesto@Energy 2000 b/c that type of uplifting trance was what made me realize the power of trance.
If you're into the more banging hard trance stuff, that's cool too. Then listen to great old sets by Dumonde, Scott Project and those guys.
Good trance is good trance, whether it's hard, uplifting, progressive, tech or whatever. I gotta admit that I'll listen to Sandstorm ocassionally and enjoy it b/c it's fun, nothing wrong with that, but it's not the best trance out there. Who doesn't like reading Harry Potter every now and then ;) |

Seriously, maybe someone shuld make a Newbie board for all the newbs floating around today...where they can discuss Darude etc before they move on to greater things..and get educated there.
All these threads are driving me nuts.. |

hmmm... sandstorm, the american understanding of trance music and the club scene... along with sonique... HOW THE EXACTLY DO YOU DANCE TO THIS MUSIC???
i had nothing against sandstorm but i started to en hate it after people started asking me why there were no trance bombs after sandstorm... WTF???
of course, i can't blame them because they don't know about trance, but it annoys me how these weird-ass songs get to the top and give people a false view of trance. IMHO, any song that becomes a hit in america is doomed to become ty cheese the next day...
i wouldn't be happy if i saw wiggers everywhere jammin' to dis new bangin' trance track, yo. |

The thing I love about trance, is that it's such a diverse sound, and can represent pretty much every mood you can think of...
I can dance my socks off to trance,
I can fall asleep to trance,
I can feel romantic, sad, angry, happy, all around one genre of music...
Think of DaRude as the McDonalds of Trance, it's quick and dirty, and it'll fill a hole, and at times it can satisfy. But it's not your homecooked meal, your sunday roast, or that expensive restaurant.... To get pleasure from those, you need to invest a bit more time, experience more, your taste will develop soon enough...
