It's funny to me how we can disrespect this music and refer to it as disposable talentless crap, but when you add some complexity around it and change the overused sounds you understand how beautiful it can really be:
I think popular dance music was always the same in terms of quality, what did we have ruling the charts 15 years ago? Dj Encore? Aqua?Vengaboys? Alice Deejay?
Saltwater was also pretty popular but those kind tracks were heavily outnumbered in terms of sales and charts appearances. |

| Magic trick....good art and videos make your music more believable. I've had friends be like duuuuude this beat is so goood....and i was like, now listen to it without the video u dummy... Good interesting video goes a long way..stupid videos for your girlfriend usually suck though. Don't do it just cuz u want ur girl to have dj babies. Just being a sceptic about the reality of it puts thing into clear perspective, I think. Optimism is only good until it interferes with reality. Videos and art are not the reality, they are the fantasy world that reflects your vision. |

No, i actually like listening to these covers in audio files as well.
And another thing to RANN: Avicii has already made at least 12mil'$.
Even if his end is near (and it isn't, he is performing everywhere and his latest song has 60mil' views on youtube) he can actually retire right now if he wanted to. |

$12m. Now take away 15% for agents cut, 15% for managers cut, now retain a PR company and personal publicist, tour manager, assistants, ghost producers, etc, etc. Now pay all your expenses from that income, and then pay tax in one or more territory.
That $12 starts looking like $4m, if you're lucky, and that doesn't go far when you're used to living on a big footprint.
Also, money isn't a benchmark for sucess, it;s one small aspect of it. I knew the guy that wrote "Isty Bitsy Teeney Weeney Yellow Polka Dot Bikini". He has made a minimum (and still does) of £400,000 per year without ever doing anything else. That's financial success, but nothing else, and he was the first person to tell you that.
@viber - I'm not sure those complexities did anything to change my mind; sure the aesthetic is far less abhorrent but the actual arrangement is is incredibly basic and in some ways, the fact I'm used to hearing classical instrument perform in fat better ways, with entirely more complex forms as parts of larger compositions makes me realise and hear the flaws even more.
I dunno. Maybe it's because I'm used to hearing so much score that this particular brand of EDM seems so infantile. |

I think that's exactly the reason, you don't feel the magic anymore. |

| I know it's cool to hate Avicii and everything, but I can think of many artists that are way worse. |

| I do know this one agent, i think ive met him a few times, he has a pretty high success rate; but ive never signed any contracts. I dont know how pulls the strings to get the dumbest music to be heard by the most people, but I think it's his evil paradox. His name is lucifer and hhheee wwiiilll kiilllll yyyooouuuuuuuuuu! LOL on the inside |

or you are reading picture books while others are enjoying Shakespeare. Life is short. Why listen to . Some people just aren't able to appreciate music on a level beyond the surface and that is why certain music exists. I think you are missing out but whatever makes you happy. |

| No,i just appreciate both Art and Entertainment. |

| i agree. But EDM can be both. I mean Scherzo's were technically dances and they appear in symphonies. I think that the tracks that stand the test of time just have some more. NOt more in content but more in thought. |

Let's argue that Bladerunner (for example - pick you own) is art and Predator (for example.....) is entertainment.
Avicii represents the layer beneath these differing extremes of film, let's say Starship Troopers 2. Yes, it's that bad.
And that life is short, why listen to comment? Word. |
