This is another perfect example of music.....yes I said music.
This is trance??
It sounds to be like a repetitive beat with no melody whats so ever and no buildups....
For those of you that like this progressive
how in the hell do you get excited and pumped when all you hear is a beat and some overused samples from 4000 other progressive tracks that are all the same through the entire track
Frankly Im quite pissed because I see this pattern in alot of sets these days
I dont know if people are on heavy drugs when they listen to this crap I know I would have to be to even find this type of music slightly interesting...
But the bottom line is its repetitive, steady beat, no buildups or melodies just pure !!!!!

sorry about all the negativity but I had to get this off my chest......this type of music bugs me even more than dark and hard trance or as I think its called NUNRG or something

Anyhow epic trance rules it makes people happy, brings shivers up and down your spine during a good buildup or melody and definetly gets the croud pumped where ever you go.

I sure as hell hope Acsession 17 is not like Tonic was or else I will be really pissed...
Its bad enough that this damn city ( Toronto ) doesnt have a single club that spins trance....unless you want to go to Space or hear some "Love shines through" every weekend at Guv and Meow followed by 8 straight hours of ass house music..... this city pisses me off sometimes HOUSE AND HOUSE AND MORE HOUSE !!!!!!!!!!

Peace to all take this thread as a little angry dude inside my body that has been waiting a long time to get out

See you all at Acsession 17 CIAO

well, I dont know why I understand what you mean, dont mean that I dont like at all the progressive sound, some tunes I do like, it still gets me moving when on the club, what I agree with you is the EPIC trance.. I know, thats the best thing there is, but the progressive sound has its stuff too I guess, about the House music, that thing is wack !! looks like the DISCO scene is coming back.. pure disco music.. well, down here, is both trance and House.. a bit more trance, but House seems to be always there.. well,
thats my said :-)
Laterz!

You must have never heard Max Graham-Airtight. You want shivers down your spine...listen to that.

Max Graham will be the biggest thing in dance music in 2 yrs. guaranteed.
Pepi
Im only using Max Graham as an example for this thread
its not really directed to him just the set he spun at tonic
as you can see Im more pissed with the trend and clubs in Toronto in general

Well wherever you are directing your harassment, come live near Detroit for a year. I would LOVE to have Graham spin here. Techno is your repetitive beats. Progressive is the new big thing. You are obviously closed minded about music because if you actually took the time to listen to his set, or any other quality prog house set, you would see all the elements of trance are there. Sure they aren't blatantly obvious so every moron in the world can see the peaks, valleys, etc in a song, but that's what makes it awesome. I bet you listened to the set once, maybe not even in it's entirety and then deleted it, wrote it off as . Music, especially trance is headed in this direction, Max Graham will be huge. I suggest dling it again, cranking your stereo, and enjoy the artistic, complex and YES full of energy sound progressive can bring. Epic trance is a dying breed, no I don't hate it. It's just that bass kicking building to a simple synth climax won't cut it anymore. THAT was my epic trance rant, but don't worry I still love it. And no I am not currently on any sort of drug, the music is THAT good. peace.
Linx_da_cat
yeah totally. max graham is totally unique in his live sets...the artistic complexity is awesome to behold. i mean this guy's a resident at gatecrasher already and he's got transport 4 around the corner too. his music style is very nice to hear...if you look deep enough for it. :D

Hey guys.. I was just thinking the same thing about heavy NUNRG or whatever it's called. I like epic trance a lot more.

In relation to that, I would like to ask you to download my live set and critique it - I think it will be the total opposite of what you don't like, Pepi. It's much better than my first attempt, and the song selection is pretty cool.

Please tell me what you think.

hey there peepee. im hurt really hurtin over the fact you decided to use max graham as a guinea pig for this piece of thread. who the hell cares if you dont like progressive?? what the hell did you even post this thread for in the first place????

now...my argument. how can you say progressive has no buildups or melodies?? the actual purpose of a progressive mix is to take you somewhere. the whole set is steady waves of buildups and breakdowns, consisting of beautiful melodies and rhythms. y you had the audacity to even comment that its in lack of buildups and melodies puzzles me. y do you think the damn genre is called progressive??? sorry that you're so narrow minded to make a negative judgement on such a beautiful form of music [progressive house/trance = future of electronic dance].

lastly, y are you commenting on graham's tonic set as ?? if you knew he spun progresso & u dont like that particular style, y'd u listen???

Lexi

PS - lets keep our progresso-bashing comments to ourselves for future reference. have a coke and a smile. :)

Epic is definately coo..but progressive is not boring if you listen to the right stuff...

just go download these couple of songs

Max Graham - Airtight
James Holden - Horizons (WOW Mix)
Fortress - An Angel Saved My Life
Satoshi Tomiie - Love in Traffic

and then tell me progressive is boring... :D
biznology
haha I think we have a convert!^^^hehe
lexi, very good job explaining, it seems i just keep telling people what you said, but they just dont understand...well theyre just missing out! peace.

day_for_night
well, i guess that everyone has the right to their own opinion...

but did you actually LISTEN to max's set?! no buildups my ass! buildups/breakdowns in the second set at the following times: 4:05, 10:25, 15:25, 19:53, 30:58. i guess cause they were your usual 'increasing beat to a phenomenal rate' build ups you had a tough time recognizing them, huh? ;)

and no synths? wtf...LISTEN man. just cause they aren't blatant cheesy synths doesn't mean progressive doesn't use synths.

as well, you say this music is repetitive. if it is, then what the hell is trance? do you think before you make comments like this? and most trance has that one factor that really is why it's on the decline - IT'S FORMULAIC. most trance follows the same ty pattern, predictable and boring (i am *not* saying all trance is like this, but most is).

now is where i will sympathize with you...a bad progressive set is just that - BAD! but so is a bad trance set...

and go buy max's cream cd 2, and tell me thats not quality music.
day_for_night
ohhh, and i have seen max get a crowd moving and lost in the music like no other dj.
