Calling anything less than 5 to 6 hours an extended set a such a joke. 4 hours used to be the norm and while it may not be anymore, calling 3 hours an extended set only reinforces the idea that djs can play 2 hours and be done and people think they're getting something extra, when that should be the absolute minimum. 3 hours is NOT an extended set. Calling it that is pretty much feeding people bull and don't say it's an extended set for JOC because he only plays 2 hour sets at most also. It would seem more honest to just say what it is, a 3 hour set.

Just saw Esscala is announcing an event at Sankey's on Monday for 6/7. Very excited to hear this!

JoC can get pretty dark, so it's not a dumb question.

I like this post

people, about that "extended" thing

see my comments about the closing times above, and what Esscala replied to it.

So, while I agree that 3h isn't what I would think of as extended set, and the word is beter left off, they can't get it to a much longer length by going late, cause the loser crowd simply doesn't support it.

As little as a week ago, I wouldn't have thought that true, but the MA night confirms what Esscala says about this, long term.

So, they'd have to have JOC start WAY earlier to get a 5 or 6 hour set from him, but if you saw how full MA was around 11, even 11:30, that wouldn't work so well either.

Not saying it shouldn't be done, I'd be into it, as I'm sure many here would be too, but really, the crowd is lacking.

Why the hell that is I dunno, but seems to be a fact.
I'm still wondering about the minmal fan base for good trance in this humongous metro area, and even that little pool can't support an 11-7 night.
wtf?

Couldn't agree more...

And as far as Esscala/Sankeys, has Esscala ever had a non-trance event? I'd imagine this has got to be trance which is what got me excited in the first place...

Adam Beyer going to 8am at Output is the reason why it thinned out around 3am, including a few friends of mine. No Adam Beyer at Output, all those people would've stayed to the very end.

fair enough, but leaving the MA party for something "techno" by going to Beyer, isn't a very compelling thing in my book, when you could do that for something TECNO by going to see Rrose.
that one was way more compelling in my book (which is why I did it)

but Esscala is making the point that it happens all the time, I'll truse them on it, they have enough experience, and its not most nights that people do those doubles I'd think

But it's also not most nights that trance even goes beyond 4am. Maybe it's not that people won't do it, more than its simply just not an available option. While not packed, there still was a crowd going strong to 5am at Mental. I see both arguments though and at the end of the day, if it doesn't make sense for the club to stay open beyond 4, then I see why they don't. It always comes down to dollars and sense.
