| Anyone want to guess what percent of guns used in crimes were legally purchased? Hint: think small (very). |

...common, how hard could it be to find him, check records and see who owns a sniper rifle. It's not like sniper rifles are easy to get ahold of, let alone shoot.
My conclusion, someone who was in the military or has extensive training. |
I doubt the guy bought it legit... as people said it could even be a modified hunting rifle... Heck I heard that you can get Kalashnikov assault rifles on the black market in Melbourne.
| quote: | Originally posted by dj_mdma this guy is different to most serial killers as his targets are seemingly random, and have no link to each other. He's also efficient and is being smart. I.e he doesn't want to get caught, so he's doing it from at least 800 Metres away.
(I say he, but u never know it could be a woman)
If i was police I would get a Military sniper and ballistics expert together and tell them to:
1: ballistics would determine what direction the bullet came from, as u could sorta guess via the trajectory of the wound.
2: Look when at which direction it came from, and use the military snipers knowledge to determine
1: the distance
2: a good posistion
I remeber reading in some magazine, that snipers bullets are incredibly accurate up to 1000 meters, but after that, they either dip or go above the original aim. Therefore, if all these people were killed by headshots, the sniper is in a 1km radius. And to get a good shot, I would think that he is in a high posistion.
Answer, look at every high floored building in the posistion, which was determined by the scientist guy, from 800-1300 metres away. |
As for the ballistics stuff.. they're probably doing exactly that0, the problem seems to be time rather than shooting-position - by they figure out where he was,the guy could be anywhere. Besides they found empty shells (ejected directly from the gun - unless he picks them up and dumps them somewhere else to throw them off) so I'm assuming that they discovered the position. |

i hate to do this and i really don't want to get on anyone's bad side but i have to ask: why is it that there are so many shootings in countries where guns are so easily accesable, even if the majority of people who purchase them are "law abiding citizens", it just has to be making the problem worse, i mean seriouly, screw this fricken "protection" bull**** , cause even if you only purchase a firearm for that reason, whats stopping your 16 year son from taking that gun, bringing it too school, and well you know what, as has happened on many occasions.
in relation to this new phyco roaming the states, i seriously hope he burns in hell, i don't want him to get the death penalty, i want him to be tortured, ok i sound evil now, but i guess it just gets you upset when you think of what these type of people are doing to innocent civilians, and even children:whip: :whip: who are just minding there own business.
anyway theres my two cents. |

its soo true.... all this garbage about protection. you think its justified to shoot someone in the face if they're trying to steal your tv? i'm not on the criminal's side here, but having a guns everywhere (even for protection) is only making the problem worse.
there aren't nearly as many violent crimes in canada, why? it probably has to do with the fact that the majority of us down have guns in the house. |

The "right to bear arms" was guaranteed in a different time. Back then a lot of people lived with the reality of wildlife (eg grizzlies), attacks by Native Americans, as well as the (paranoid) fear of the British reclaiming their colony.
My suggestion is this: If you want to use a 1791 document to guarantee a right to own guns, then surely the type of guns you can own should be the same as the type that would have existed in 1791: Heavy, muzzle-loading beasts, that took like 10 seconds to load between shots if you were quick |

Scary stuff indeed. This is the problem with Americas constitution. It was written in an era when things like this wouldn't have crossed peoples minds. I do have a few thoughts on how it's something like this has gone from being impossible to something that just happens nowdays and if you ask me it's because society's morals and ethics which were once being upheld by parents and schools are no longer in place.
Hollywood owns the rights to the violent action movies that have romanticized gore and killing. Teach kids that it's ok to kill people, Heck TV is full of it these days.
What do we expect people to do after being brought up on a steady diet of violence and hate?
 |

no he's not re-enacting the movie! If he had, I'm sure that there would be even more widespread panic, and the media would condemn Hollywood movies etc.
The Sniper has only killed 7 people. In the movies 7, there is a nutter going around and killing people by the 7 deadly sins (Greed, Gluttony, Envy, Revenge, Sloth, and 2 others i can't remember , Vanity?)
The problem with this current situation is how a Sniper can get onto a good posistion in a builiding easily. Surely someone is gonna notice some person walking into a building with a big gun! :nervous: |

"Authorities said the shell was .223-caliber, the same kind of bullet used to kill six people and wound another in Washington and its Maryland and Virginia suburbs in the last week. The casing is believed to be the first one recovered since the slayings began."
Well .223 is used in a lot of assault rifles like these Armalite/M4 variants
and hunting rifles use it as well
Also they're saying the distance was more like 100 to 150 yards and guns like this are definitely useful at that range. but honestly the problem is theres too many guns and it's too easy for people to get their hands on one too. All you have to do is put a scope on em and they're really nasty weapons. The strange thing is the single shot theory which shows he's got good marksmanship and proud of it too and that means he's careful and precise and that's gonna make him hard to catch. |

This is a good point. I've often joked about how the right the bear arms didn't specify what type of arms, so it could reasonably be interpreted to include nuclear arms. That probably wouldn't be advisable, agreed? |
