I personally think this is a bit of a mythical situation; that a woman wearing less clothing in the street suddenly becomes more of a viable rape target. Secondly, I'm never suggesting a woman could be "asking for it" - that rape can ever, in any circumstances, be justifiable. Thirdly, most of the common sense guidelines that minimise the chances of rape also minimise the chances of other crime, such as murder or mugging.

Yes, I know that. Those were just examples, and I think they're a little bit cliche myself.

It's all well and good that feminists want to adopt a universal policy that places the onus entirely on men, but feminists have a tendency to place the responsibility entirely on the social system and not on the individual, which can be seen in the discourse surrounding issues such as body image. As I mentioned earlier, this kind of unrealistic militant stance may have honourable intentions but it ends up being counter-productive because it alienates its target audience. If feminists are speaking straight to men, as you suggest, they'd be wiser to make some blow-softening concessions rather than a constant cacophony of shrill, impractical insistence.

It's annoying to me as well, but I don't ever see feminists and 'Social Justice Warriors' ever being reasonable about the issues they feel so strongly about.

One potentially controversial subject that hasn't really been broached yet is the confusing grey area of drunken sexual encounters. There is a certain degree of paranoia amongst men that women can wake up blurry-eyed in the morning, have some fuzzy memory of a sexual act that they, in their sober mind would never countenance, and leap to the assumption of rape. I've had a personal experience where a girl I know has been ridiculously drunk and I've ended up looking after her during a night out, only for her to come on extremely strong with me (I had the bite marks to prove it). Only a chance intervention stopped us having sex, but when I tried to bring the subject up a couple of days later she had absolutely no memory of it and was actively freaked out by the mention of it. That kind of is deeply scary as a man, and the hardline feminist stance that rape is only ever the fault of a man is going to meet resistance with any man who's ever been in that kind of situation.

Yes, this is what I was talking about in my other post. It's basically called "gray rape." http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2...m-of-date-rape/

I don't have much to add except that the area of "gray rape" freaks me the out.

All those terms they add to make it sound not so bad just make my head hurt.

Dare rape has to be the worst. Petty sure the date ends when you are being raped. B
And defenc lawyers always use these illogical sayings to avoid prosecution. Some universities in the us now use sexual assault rather than rape which is like lumping murder with physical assault. They claim the word rape has a negative implication which would present the accused in a negative light. Ridiculous,

That's not actual rape though, that'd be a false accusation of rape (in error at least and not used manipulatively/really stupidly).

I think (some) feminists stance on the issue is like one of many militant blind ideologues. Everything for them eventually devolves into black and white and any hazy issues brought up make them assume that whoever has brought it up is their opponent and then therefore those views are the opposite of theirs. Militant communists are the same in certain situations if you say someone's not earning very much because they haven't worked hard enough. Libertarians can be that way on some issues as well.

Also, since I'm not the first person to bring it up, false rape accusations are actually really common. The number of times I've heard of a gf's friends at school telling people they were raped to either bring their sex number down or because they regret having sex with someone is appalling. I have a feeling girls might tend to take a more mature attitude with it when they get older though, but still, if it's something that someone feels they can get an advantage out of doing then it's gonna be something some people are gonna lie about. The law already doesn't merely assume guilt so I do think it is overall reasonable at not falsely convincting people. With that said, apparently a lot more (proper) convinctions could be made if there was more money spent on forensics testing so I think that'd be a wise area to invest in.

come on dude

forget about all those that do not even testify because the process is so painful and embarrassing. Your anecdote doesn't really reflect reality. I find it very unlikely that someone would go thru so much just to not lose their standing in the young republicans club. The number of people that do not testify is staggering. these sorts of illusions are what s use to make it less real and less of an issue.

For real, what in the . Why would you doubt someone's word that they have been sexually assaulted? Would you think the same thing if a child approached you with claims?

Psyshell, you're a young, white male. The only thing keeping you from being the worst thing in the world is that fact that you're not American. Now go read this and get all knows:
