Post here if you want a Politics Forum (pg. 2)

if people were to debate rather than argue, all these threads would be fine. just wait a lil while longer and see if people mature more. if they don't, then try opening another forum.
personally i like politics threads in here b/c I don't usually post in them but i like to read some of them occasionally. and if i have some input i can post something. if these topics are in a seperate forum, then alot of people like me would not even go there and each thread would consist of 10 replies by the same 2 people.
c'mon, be logical before requesting yet another forum. |

ive been on a huge local electronic music scene forum for about 3 years now, around 7000 people.
we had this same issue come up. a few people would always post political topics in "off topic discussion", the equivalent of this forum, so it was decided to make a seperate "Activism" (turned into a general politics forum tho) forum. what it turned into, was those same 3-4 people, posting various topics and arguing with each other over and over. then again, thats what happens here too, just with maybe 10 people instead of 4.
after awhile it got axed and now everything clutters up OT again.
my thoughts on it:
on the forum i post in, i dont care either way...
but for TA, i would really prefer there to be a seperate forum for that kinda stuff.. because unlike my forum, this forum always seems to pump out tons of anti american threads, which always turn into flaming and hatred and the more i read it, the more it makes me not want to post. if there was a seperate section, then the people that consistently post this kind of stuff would have somewhere to post it, anyone else interested in joining the bashing could go there to read it and contribute, and chill room could be better off in my opinion.
(bah, now all we need is a "girls" forum so everyone can go post their 25 gigs of naked/half naked girl pictures there instead of 7 threads a day in chill room, and then chill room would really be good... heh)

yea, but really, thats what happens here too... there are the same core people that always start them or respond to them, and then the occasional different person. |

NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
No way!
Listen, it's impossible for people not to argue on such topics, even politicians do it...
Politics seperates people...... it changes the way people look at eachother, and i believe creates dislike. Not too many people feel happy after having a political discussion.
Infact, i think political threads should be banned from the
TA forums!
That's just my opinion..

I think it is a good idea, but I would like to have it extended to all "deep" topics, such as religion, philosophy and psychology. The huge benefit of such a room would be that the threads don't get pushed off the page by all the other, in my mind, less interesting "i'm drunk"-threads.
Alternatively, we should have a chatroom for "i'm drunk" kind of debate ;) |

I agree with tranceaholic, a political, religious, philisophical, and psychology forum.. is very appropriate
my comment to all you people who are saying this is a bad idea:
even if there is not a forum for 'serious' topics.. they will be brought up in the chillout room, where tons and tons of people filter through, and if they see a thread titled 'president bush'... guess what... they will most likely just hop in and flame..
but on the other hand, if the forum was its own people would be visiting a forum, with the hopes to see issues such as 'christianity' or 'the war on terror' or 'judaism' ....
I feel that just people making the effort and wanting to visit a 'serious forum' will increase the likely hood of a more intelligent conversation
I honestly see no cons, because I think many, many more idiotic two word posts are done in COR, than any other forum

Essential1 please do not tell me I'm being illogical... I'm actually trying to solve an issue... so starting little tidbits of a flame isn't appropriate.. PM me if you have any more comments like that.. |

yea i guess your right.... political threads are inevitable..
A new forum might be a good idea for those who enjoy such dicussions... personally i just don't like poliitics.... but it's better of in a seperate forum.. |

Sounds resonable but what would be left of the chill out room? If you take all the intelligent discussions out of it you will have a forum filled with "check out those boobs!:eyes: " and "do u ever smoke pot and pee in your bed simultanously?" threads. I tink the only serious topic that would remain would be (serious!) sex/love/friendship discussions. |

but isnt the COR already like that...?? the two topics... boobs, and religion are so different don't the deserve their own place?>? COR should be a place to chill, have fun, joke around
the political, religious, philisophical, and psychology forum is one to debate, think, and post your ideas....... not to post one liners like ... 'word homey' :P or stupid like that |

I think you are totally right, but some people obviously enjoy the less deep chat threads, and they would not miss the "serious" discussions.
After all, even if somebody did enjoy both kinds of discussions they could attend both sections. Personally, I would probably stop posting in chill out, but I guess that I wouldn't be missed by those who stayed only there - and I, on the other hand, would gain the opportunity to think it over before posting in a "serious" debate, without having to resurrect some thread on page 3. |

I donno...
Look the "chill out room" like its name indicates should be a place where certain topics are discussed in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. "Relaxed" doesn't necessarily mean brainless. Additionally the aura of the cill out room, where you know your "opponents" in some more serious debates (like the Iraqi one) through "happier" threads, as well contributes to the civilized and not so hostile conversation. For example, if you and mr. y are having totally different opnions on some political issue and the disparity is getting radical the chances of personal attacks increase. However, if u remember that this guy you're now "fighting" with was the one u laughed with in some "boobs!!:eyes: " thread you'll think again as u respect the person and therefore are likely to stick to the issue itself rather than the person discussing with you.
Hope you understand me somehow :) |
